There is a short story by William S Burroughs entitled "The Junky's
Christmas". It was made into a short claymation film by Francis Ford
Coppola, directed by Nick Donkin, and narrated by Burroughs himself.
It may be the greatest piece of claymation ever made. I once had a VHS
copy, but cannot find it since I last moved. I need a Google Answers
researcher to tell me where I can obtain a copy, preferrably on DVD, but
VHS would suffice. |

Hi,
It seems that there was no DVD ever made and the VHS is not in production anymore.
Here are a few links for you:
IMDB page
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0125812/
Amazon product page
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004CZ93/ref=nosim/ukinvestmentdire/026-0960391-1078826?dev-t=D10SBASHC4I9Q1
I haven't found anything on ebay. I think your best bet is to
pre-order it used on Amazon and hope that someone sells it there and
keep on checking ebay.
Thanks.

Hi,
There is another way to get it over a P2P network. This would be a
digital version, if you are interested in such a copy, I can give you
details on how to obtain it, but you would ideally need a broadband
connection and about a week to spare downloading it.
Thanks.

Hey Endo,
Yeah, that would be good.

Hi boomering,
Thank you for your question.
Old videos can be very hard to locate and when they are not produced
anymore it can be very difficult to obtain them.
"The Junky's Christmas" is available on the eDonkey network.
To download it you will need a program such as emule.
emule download page
http://emule-project.net/index.php?s=downloads
Please download and install emule, you might want to have a look
through the help on how to configure it.
Once you have emule installed, please navigate to this page using
Internet Explorer:
http://www.filedonkey.com/file/ceaf88436233c519690e53a87d8619bf/en
You should see a link in blue preceded by "ed2k". Clicking on this
link should have the effect of adding the file to your transfer list
in emule. This particular file isn't highly available (there are about
7 sources) so it will take some time for it to start downloading and
even longer to complete, but you will eventually get it if you are
patient.
You might also want to use Jigle:
http://www.jigle.com/search
Jigle can tell you which servers have the sources for the file, if you
connect to one of these servers, you might increase the chances of
getting the file faster.
Please note that the video is probably copyrighted and that the
preferred solution is to wait till it is available for purchase.
I hope this answers your question. If you need any more help please do
not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for using Google Answers.

Hey Endo,
Thanks for the answer....looks like I'll learn a lot in the process. I
just want to ask quickly --- the week or so you said it might take ---
is that because of available time on the remote server? The reason I
ask is that broadband isn't available in any form except satellite
dish where I live, so all I have is dial-up. If the bottleneck is on
the other end, I'm wondering if it could work with dial-up.
I'll be out today but back this evening.
Thanks,
Boomering

Hi,
Yes the bottleneck is on the source side, because of the rarity of the
file (there are actually up to 13 sources now). But it is preferred if
you stay connected because of the way the edonkey network works. When
you request a file you will be placed in a queue on the source side.
If you have a file that the source side wants then you will move up
the queue faster. But basically you have to wait till you reach the
first position in a queue to start receiving part of a file. Then this
needs to happen several times till you have the whole file, thereby
the lengthy process if there are few sources. Dial-up will be enough
in terms of bandwidth but you need to stay connected for long periods
of time, which is why I specified you would need broadband for this
solution. I have started getting it myself, I'll let you know when it
finishes. If you need any more help please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks.

Hey Endo,
YEs, please let me know how it works out, also if you have any other
ideas for getting help with the download. I've pre-ordered with
Amazon.uk, but who knows whether that will pan out, and even if it
does, i'll have to change formats to make it viewable on American
video. I won't be able to stay connected indefinitely with my dial-up
setup, so i think that avenue is out.
Best Regards,
Boomering

Thank you for the great rating and the generous tip.
I'm actually at over 70% completed now for the file.
If you give me your emule username and if you connect to the following
server, I can establish a friend's slot for you, so you'll get
priority access to my upload queue.
IP address: 195.245.244.243
port: 4661
To connect to a given server, it needs to be in your server list first
(click on the server tab and it using the fields on the right), then
right click on the server in the list and choose connect.
You will also need the following file to playback the video:
XVID codec
http://nic.dnsalias.com/XviD_Install.exe
Pre-ordering it on Amazon and looking through ebay regularly is your
best bet. I had a look on a few more auction sites and didn't manage
to locate it. With some patience you will download it eventually on
emule.
Thanks again.

Hey Endo,
Did you finish downloading and get to view the video yet? It's a great work of art.
Due to illness in my family, I probably won't get started on this for
another week or so. When I do get started, I'd really appreciate
taking you up on your offer to expedite things. I hope you'll check
back here.
Thanks,
boomering

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about your family problems.
Yes it's finished now, I had a look at the beginning and the ending to
look for clues. I found out it's a VH1 video, so I've posted a message
on their message board hoping that someone there will be able to find
a copy. Once you have an emule username just let me know and I can
give you an upload slot.
Thanks.
