I come here often enough but usually eat the local fare which in
itself is food fit for a king and completely different from what I get
at home in Melbourne, (and even between one  Indonesian province and
another) but I am yet to find a very good western style thick
medium-rare steak.

  Any ideas please please??

question. I have just got back from many hours away in city of JKT and
will not be able to go over your answer thoroughly to be able to rate

No I am not from Jakarta but I have visited Jakarta twice. I was
fortunate to eat at the Steakhouse restuarant at Regent. Great service
and food. Unfortunately, I didn't try the steak.

Also I have some general knowledge of the five star hotels worldwide.
I already knew about the restaurant at Park Lane. The rest, I just
consulted from the web.

Dear Leader,
             Now been to one of your reccommendations,( yesterday)so
can rate with some greater credibility. We went to the Empire Grill
which was  a magnificent setting and an excellent steak also. My steak
however was of the smaller cut unfortunately as the prices were pretty
steep for the larger version. The view from the revolving restaurant
is certainly a highlight of any trip to Jakarta with a skyline similar
but smaller to what we see in wide photo shoots of Manhattan ,
HongKong etc.
