When I choose "edit/find" from the menu (or cntl-F), the dialog box
for entering the find text disappears.  I see it "flash" then it seems
to minimize at the top left.  I do not have the same problem with
Excel or Outlook.  I have tried looking on the menu (tools/options)
and also on the Microsoft web site for support but no luck.  Any
ideas?

Good suggestion, but that did not help any.  (I have rebooted since doing that.)

Sometimes Office settings get corrupted and the Profile Wizard is a
good way to reset settings back to default.

I'm sorry your Outlook settings got reset as well; this must be a bug
(or feature :)).

Running PROFLWIZ.EXE seemed to do the trick, although it also wiped
out my Outlook accounts(even though I chose to only reset Word
settings.)  No harm, though, and it was worth it.  I can now search
and replace.  Thanks,
