I have a painting signed by a "Cobendoz" dated 1892.  Do you have any
information on this painter?

Are you sure of the artist name (spelling)?. There's not a single
reference to that word in Google.

Go to a good library and check the comprehensive European dictionaries
of artists.  The oldest and most venerable -- which is being
republished and may have gotten to Co by now -- is by Thieme and
Becker, while another valuable one is by Benezit.
