Hi again zaynab,
Thank you for your question.
The option to include a player when you burn the DVD includes a small
application that you can use to playback DVDs on computers that don't
have a DVD player application. It is useless for DVD players and not
necessary for computers that already have a software DVD application
such as Power DVD.
In the case of DVDit the application included is cDVD. The option is
described in this manual on page 106. However is also specifies that
the option is only available when writing to a CD-R, which points to a
problem.
DVDit manual
http://www.dvdit.com/support/manuals/english.pdf
The following guide recommends that you systematically uncheck the box.
http://www.dvline.com/CFWebstore/pages/support/faq/dvd/dvdit.htm
From the site:
A cDVD is a CD-R that contains DVD content. When you create a cDVD,
DVDit! also includes a DVD player on the disc. This means that anyone
with a CD-ROM drive in their PC can play it back.
The DVD player runs directly from the CD-R ? nothing is installed on
the user?s hard drive. This is very useful because it means that
anyone you send the disc to should be able to play it, even if they
don?t have any DVD-related hardware or software on their PC.
cDVD is a standard feature in all DVDit! products and is available in
version 2.0 and above.
Note: cDVD discs cannot be played in set-top DVD players.
The reason I suspect that it points to a problem, is that you are
unable to erase a DVD-RW. I am suspecting that it is not correctly
detecting that your drive has a DVD-RW inserted. Regardless of what is
on the disk it should be erasable.
Please download the latest patch for DVDit from:
DVDit Patches and Updates:
http://support.sonic.com/SonicOnline_dwnld_prvw.htm
If that doesn't help, then we need to find another application that
can erase your DVD-RW. I suspect the patch might be too old to support
your drive correctly.
Please try and see if DVDINFOPro works, it gives you lots of
information about your drive and disks and supports erasing.
DVDINFOPro homepage

DVD-RW users have also reported problems with Memorex disks, you might
have a bad batch of disks. Also if you have Nero, you might want to
try and erase your DVD-RW with that. The Erase option is in the
Recorder menu. Please also make sure that your recorder is correctly
selected in Nero.
I hope this helps. If you've still got any problems, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for using Google Answers.

Hi Endo,
Thanks for the comments. Ticking the "Include Player" box might just
be the problem. I'll do a couple of tests and let you kno.
I don't have any Memorex discs, and the rest of the batch of DVD-RW's
that I'm using seem to be doing OK. So, I'm thinking that it's not a
disc problem.
Now that you bring up the idea of different discs, I just ran across
the fact that there are regular DVDs and DVD's for authoring. I'm
clueless. Could this be part of the problem? The only information I
have so far is that DVD's for authoring are substantially more
expensive.
Thanks,
Zaynab-ga

Hi Zaynab-ga,
I believe it's a software issue then, DVDit isn't recognizing your drive properly.
The DVDs for authoring are not what you're looking for I think, here's
a little quote:
http://www.techtv.com/freshgear/products/jump/0,23009,3350237,00.html
DVD-RW (rewritable) makes use of phase-changing materials similar to
those found in CD-RW media, and is currently limited to 2x recording
speeds. Recording performance for DVD-R (write-once) tops out at 4x.
You will often see blank DVD-RW media (-R or -RW) listed with a "(G)"
attached to the end. DVD-RW comes in two media types -- Authoring (A)
and General Use (G). DVD-RW for Authoring requires expensive recording
equipment and is intended for professional use. The rest of us will
stick to using General Use media as both the recorders and blank media
are far less expensive.
Another quote:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/archive/t125053.html
your a04 104 uses general media, it will not be able to use media for
authoring, the lasers of authoring drive burn at a different nm size
they are used form making master dvd's
After looking at a few stores that sell the items, it also seems that
they are compatible with very specific drives. Have you had the chance
to try another application to erase your disk?
I hope this helps, if you need any more clarifications please do not
hesitate to ask.
Thanks.

Hi Endo,
I still haven't gotten the DVD-RW erasing question figured out, but I
will. I think I just need the right erasing software. I've sort of
proven that to myself, but I need to do some more tests.
Here's another clue, though. I'm using two types of authoring
software, both of which also burn the DVDs or CDs. One is DVDit, as
you know. The other is DVD Lab, which is fabulous compared to
anything else I've used.
Both software programs will burn to either hard disc volume or direct
to DVD or CD. However, when I try to burn a disc from a hard disc
volume that's already made, I get a failure in both programs. Burning
a disc direct from the project works OK.
Does this give us a clue?
By the way, I'm out of town all the time. If I fail to pay you in the
specified time, do you get paid automatically? I hope so. You're
working for a living.
Thanks,
Zaynab

Hi Zaynab,
Good to hear from you.
Have you tried DVDINFOPro to try and erase your disks?
DVDINFOPro homepage
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/index.php
Concerning your other problem, can you please give me the model of
your drive and the versions of the programs you're using?
It is very weird that you cannot burn from DVD volumes. If you try and
create a volume using DVDit then try and burn it straight away, do you
get an error message? What is the error message please?
DVD volumes are only useful for testing purposes anyways, to verify
that the structure and files are correct before burning them. Maybe
they're refusing to burn your DVD volume because its format is not
correct, or it's missing some files?
Thank you for your concern, but I've already posted my comments as an
answer, so I've already been paid for this question :)
Thanks.

Hey Endo,
Thanks for answering. I'm glad you got paid.
The only error message I get when I try to burn from a volume to a
disc is Build Failed.
I'm using DVDit v2.5 LE and DVD Lab v2.5. It's not really all that
bothersome because I can still burn from the project direct to the
disc.
Haven't had a chance to do the DVDInfopro tests, yet, but I will.
Thanks,
Zaynab

Hey Endo,
By the way, this question is still open, though you say you've been
paid. Are you sure you've been paid?
Thanks,

Hi Zaynab,
It sounds as if the volume on your HDD isn't a valid DVD disk
structure somehow, or the video file isn't valid. What is the exact
error message please? Is there a code and description that appears
with it? Also I still have a feeling that DVDit doesn't support your
drive correctly. Have you tried downloading the latest patch?

Thank you again for your concern. Once a researchers posts an answer,
they get paid for their answer. But the question remains open until
you choose the rating/tip for the researcher. Although clarifications
and comments can still be made.
Thanks.
