sure to check out their "Bloody Mary" Saturday and Sundays, where you

Looking for the not so pretentiousness of Hollywood? Looking for more
down to earth local Los Feliz peeps? Go to this bar for cheap drinks
and cool people.

Ever just want to go to a dive bar, or as we call them "Old Men Bars",
and just drink a beer, listen to a good juke box, and soak up the
atmosphere? Well, next time you're in L.A check out Ye Olde Rustic Inn
in Los Feliz. Guiness or budweiser, they have it all here, including
the old men at the bar, watching the boxing matches and flirting with
the waitresses. Sit here all night, have a burger, read a book, or
better yet, write a book, here are enough characters in here fo at
least five novels, and a couple of short stories!
Pros: Cheap beer, no "Scene", interesting characters
Cons: aforementioned characters get a bit crazy sometime

I live in a city with more cars than people and more beautiful women
than beautiful cars, my boss hasn?t spoken to me in days, and the last
thing I wrote was as banal as raking leaves. But I don?t despair,
because my friend who relates phoned, and tonight we?re having Myrtle
Burgers at Ye Rustic Inn on Hillhurst Avenue.
The salty, likable waitress arrives, and I?m anxious just to say it:
"Myrtle Burger." I add, "And a Budweiser," like it?s a condiment. My
Myrtle Burger arrives just when I?m ready for a second cold beer
perfect timing. When I see the plate of hot, crisp fries and the big
burger, delicacy goes out the window. It comes with cheese, bacon,
onions if you want ?em, and Russian dressing. I pour a pond of ketchup
for the fries, lift the lid of the bun and dribble more ketchup on
what?s already heaped on top. This is the diner burger I ate with
milkshakes as a kid (and now with beer, since I learned to appreciate
the weedy taste of a cold Budweiser). Each bite calms my nerves,
builds my confidence and puts a smile on my face. Myrtle, who opened
the bar 30-some years ago, has since passed, but she knew what she was
doing. This burger is for hunger: all kinds."

jabbering about the philosophical horrors of reading "Watership Down"
in a Northern California auto shop while mechanics tried to fix his
battered car.
The Rustic -- or, more formally, Ye Rustic Inn -- is the finest bar in
our Los Angeles, which comprises a five-mile-wide strip from
Silverlake to Santa Monica. It is a friendly and wonderfully dark
tavern with diner-style booths and lovely smart-ass waitresses. It
also serves the perfect breakfast: Bloody Mary's and grilled-cheese
sandwiches with steak fries. And you are welcome to smoke while
dining, although it is a clear violation of California law and the bar
staff certainly doesn't encourage such things.
I had to hit the ATM on the way, in order to withdraw my last twenty
dollars, and when I walked into the Rustic's soothing environment I
removed my sunglasses and blinked in the darkness, searching for my
table.
"He's in the corner booth," she said, pointing to the newspaper-hidden
man across the room. The rest of the party took their place and we
sipped cocktails while discussing pending record contracts, lawyers
and the rotten weather in Central Europe this time of year. It was 80
degrees in Los Angeles.
The jukebox stopped midway through an early David Bowie song and we
all looked up to see an oddly familiar sight on the bar teevees... "
