I have designed a website www.weddingcards.biz I am not an expert in
this sort of thing. This site usually gets listed in top 10 for terms
such as Hindu Wedding Cards, Indian Wedding Cards, sikh wedding cards
etc. Sites such as 123weddingcards.com, indianweddingcard.com and
parekhcards.com are usually listed before mine (designed by
professionals I think). What are they doing that I am not? How can I
improve the site so that I get a better page rank?

Hello Mysite ~

It's not often I get someone who isn't happy with a first page listing
for their chosen search term! Be that as it may, I'll try to compare
the sites you listed:

   * 123weddingcards.com
   * indianweddingcard.com
and
   * parekhcards.com

I also added regalcards.com to the comparison, since it currently
places higher than your own site and parekhcards.com has slipped to a
page ranking below yours.

   * regalcards.com

to help you understand why they may be listed before your site,
www.weddingcards.biz.

========================
Keyword Comparison
"Hindu Wedding Cards"
========================

Using the Keyword Density Analyzer on Search Engine World, I ran an
analysis of the phrase "Hindu wedding cards" on both the sites' index
pages and the actual page which contained the information on Hindu
wedding cards. That comparison is below:

==================================================================
                                                           3-word

      Percentage             | 23.8  |  50.79% |  25.4   |  12.07%
=============================|=======|=========|=========|========
weddingcards.biz             |    6  |   31    |   31    |  3
      Percentage             |  8.8  |  45.59  |  45.59  |  4.76%
-----------------------------|-------|---------|---------|--------
Pg: hindu.htm                |    9  |   35    |   39    |  5
      Percentage             | 10.8  |  42.17  |  46.99  |  6.67
==================================================================

For the most part, those sites above yours made a slightly better use
of the phrase than your site did, both on the individual page and the
index page.

=======================
Index Page Contents
=======================

Most of the top ranking sites had more content on their index pages,
while yours had flash, which cannot be indexed by search engines,
thereby leaving your site containing mostly links, with no real
keyword rich content.

For graphics, the top sites used alt tags with relevant descriptions,
and your site didn't make use of the alt tags.

Most of the top ranking used a shorter title than you are using in
yours, and with the specific pages aimed at Hindu wedding cards, those
words were usually the first words in the title tag.

=========================
Links to the sites
=========================

123wedding.com - 3 links with a PR of 4 or higher
               - 82 links from other pages

parekhcards.com - 46 links with a PR of 4 or higher
                - 148 links from other pages

regalcard.com - 3 links with a PR of 4 or higher
              - 54 links from other pages

indianwedding.com - 2 links with a PR of 4 or higher
                  - 552 links from other pages

weddingcards.biz - 5 links with a PR of 4 or higher
                 - 53 links from other pages

As you can see, the other sites have more pages linking TO their
sites, which is also a contributing factor.

=========================
Some Suggestions
=========================

Put your Title and Alt tags to work, use your key words in both of
them, but don't clutter either, especially the title tag, with too
many words.

Links to your site from RELEVANT pages will also help, although again,
your first page position out of a total of "about 26,600" results is
hardly derogatory.

Important Google Links For Your Reference
==========================================

If you feel you want to raise your search engine results placement, it
is important you understand how to design your page and what is
acceptable and what is not.

I have taken the liberty of including some important links from
Google's Webmaster Information and Webmaster Guidelines. Webmasters
who follow the guidelines and avoid Google's "Thou shalt nots" usually
have no problem getting listed and showing up under the search terms
they desire.

     can read about the "how and why" of Google's results

     SERPS)

Other Sources of Information
================================

There is also good information from many of the top search engine
optimization experts, such as

   * Detlev Johnson, Search Engine Guide
     - http://www.searchengineguide.com/detlev/

   * Danny Sullivan, Search Engine Watch
     - http://www.searchenginewatch.com/

   * Jill Whalen, High Rankings
     - http://www.highrankings.com/

   * Shari Thurow, Web Pro News (and quoted all over the Internet)
     - www.webpronews.com/

who all have columns or newsletters to which you can subscribe and
keep abreast of the best way to use good content for better
positioning in search engine results.

In addition, Webmaster World - http://www.webmasterworld.com/ - has
discussion boards on most of the search engines. While some of the
discussions are anecdotal and/or questions for information, there is
usually enough discussion to keep abreast of what seems to be
happening.

There is an entire section devoted to Google at:
   - http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/

It never hurts to keep track among these discussions, but remember,
trying to optimize for search engines only is like trying to hit a
moving target. You'll notice among the more experienced contributors
to the discussions - plus the SEO experts listed above - that there
really is no substitute for content, relevant links and good HTML.

=======================
Summary
=======================

A first place listing for your search term is really terrific. You've
got a total 26,600 who would all like to be where your site is.

The comparisons will help you understand *some* of the reasons the
other sites may be placed higher than yours in search engine results,
but if you are inclined to make changes, you really need to understand
what works and what doesn't - so do pay attention and read the Google
links and information above. It should be immensely helpful in your
decisions.
