I sue MS Outlook as my primary email client. I have an Asus A7N8X with a AMD XP 2500 and scads of RAM. Everything runs fantastic except MS Outlook. In the Inbox whenever I have the preview pane open, it takes forever to go from one email to hte next. FOr instance I'm sitting there hitting the down arrow to browse through my inbox each time I hit the down arrow, it pauses for a few seconds before displaying the next message. During this pause, the system acts like it's locked. If I turn off the preview pane, I can hit the down arrow and move right through the spambox.. I mean INBOX. I have other systems very simular to this one and they run fine with the preview pane open. What gives and how do I fix it? The 1337 person who sovles this one gets paid!! |

dude, disable Messegin services, in the tools menu. Goto Tools -> Options -> Other -> then make sure the bottom field is not checked. ' Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook ' This will speed up the process of the preview pane, the emails, in addition to that will also speed up the execution of outlook itself. You will notivce the difference. Josh |

what type of email account do you have set up? (ie hotmail, IMAP, POP3, Exchange) that seems to me the most likely culprit. a pop3, exchange or hotmail account by default downloads each message when you select that message, so it can take a while depending on the email server, the speed of your internet connection, etc. You can speed this up though. For example, if your account is an IMAP account, try this (taken directly from the Outlook Help File): 1 On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups. 2 Click a group that contains your IMAP account, and then click Edit. 3 Under Accounts, click your IMAP account. 4 In the list, select the check box for each folder you want to include when checking e-mail, and after each folder you select, click Download complete item including attachments. Or, if you do have a type of account other than a pop3, see if you can set the account up as a pop3 account (most servers let you check your email using any of a variety of methods). If you use a POP3 account, Outlook will download *all* of your new messages when you check your email--so a 'send/receive' might take longer than you're used to, but going through your inbox should be much quicker. (A search on 'POP3' in the outlook help will tell you more about this type of account and the various options you can use). Also, you may try compacting your outlook data files. From the 'file' menu, pick 'data file management' . Double click on each of the items listed in the list box, and in the dialog that pops up, click 'compact now.' Hope that helps! |

It is a POP3 account. I'm not sure if that will help. It does this even with old emails that are already downloaded. As I scroll down each one, it just seems to sit and think about it before moving on to the next one. Very frustrating. I'll try turning off the IM deal. Thanks I'll report my progress. |
