Hi there,

I checked the Library of Congress and it doesn't list either title.
Nor do any used book sites. Then I had a hmmmmm... Benton Fraser is
the lead character in the TV series "Due South".

Synopsis:

"Canadian Mountie Benton Fraser comes to Chicago in pursuit of his
father's killer, and is assigned to the Chicago Consulate in the
position of R.C.M.P. (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) Deputy Liaison
Officer.

He teams up with Det. Ray Vecchio and they have plenty of success
cleaning up crime in Chicago; Vecchio by pointing guns at people,
Fraser by following scent trails and helping old ladies cross roads"

Two books about the series
http://www.duesouth.com/trading/books.html

One of the two books has Benton Fraser named on the cover. The copy
you saw must have had a hard life to look like it was 70 or 80 years
old! Or perhaps it was a promotional book for the series, designed to
look authentically old - however I was unable to find any mention of
such a book.

Best wishes,

Thanks to Robert...I know about Due South ...but this book was very
much pre Due South
and maybe it was CANADIAN rather than American, not sure if that
matters for Library of Congress
(being a Brit I have no idea)

I do remember that one of the auctioneers read part of the book out to
up the bids...it was a gag
item in a way <g> bit it was fiction and definitely not anything to do
with Paul Gross or Paul Haggis
nor was it a promotional item for the show excellent as the show
was...I adored the show and would
love to find a copy of this book as a novelty item.

It was a hard back book of the old style, with a dark red cover and a
black outline drawing of a
Mountie on the front....if you know the original Bobbsey twins
books..(which I remember as being
in similar bindings but with a lighter coloured cover) then you may
know more about what I am
describing - or attempting to.

I don't know if my clarification helps.

The book you're looking for could be part of the "Dale of the Mounted"
series. Go to
http://www.alibris.com
and type Dale of the Mounted in the title search - several titles will
come up.

Hope this helps!

by Richard s Kendall

and is called "Benton of the Royal Mounted"

thanks to all those who helped out

Several copies of Benton of the Royal Mounted are available at
http://www.bookfinder.com

Put in Kendall for author, Benton for title

Prices range from $5 - $40
