I am using Paint Shop Pro 7 and would like to generate
a SGI image file (rgba) from 2 files. A source tga file,
which contains the color(rgb) and a source jpg file which
contains the alpha component. Could you take me through the
steps involved in writing a 32 bpp rgba image based on this
source.

I seem to only be saving the rgb components when I write the file
out. I am a Paint Shop Pro novice so hopefully this is an easy
question

Hi,

I'm not posting this as an answer yet, since I'm pretty new to this as
well and using PSP 8, so I'm not sure it's exactly what you want.

Also is it possible that you meant that the alpha component is in the
TGA file and that the RGB part is in the JPG file?

Anyways here is what I tried:

1-) Open the JPG image.
2-) Open the TGA image containing an alpha component.
3-) From the menu choose layers->load/save Mask->Load Mask from Alpha Channel.
4-) Choose the TGA image from the dropdown box. Then press ok to apply
the mask to the JPG.
5-) From the menu choose layers->load/save Mask->Save Mask to Alpha
Channel. Then press save.
6-) Now it's just a case of doing file->save as, choosing the SGI file
format and pressing save.

The result should be a picture containing the JPG as the main image
and the TGA as the alpha channel.

Please let me know if this is what you were expecting and how it works out.

Thanks.

Thank you,

By following the steps you identified, I was able to save the
file with the alpha component. I believe you can identify this
as a solution and thanks for the excellent support!

The component I wanted to use as alpha was stored in the JPG file
as luminance (I was not clear about this).
