Hi shermie,

Is this word is made up of *only* those letters or those letters plus others?
Any other details will help. Thanks.

Shermie --

Are you sure that this word isn't really a "cryptic crossword"?

The answer for H2O would be "water." See this Australian Broadcast Corp. site:
ABC

Hi shermie,

If this *is* a cryptic puzzle, H2O, like omnivorous said, is the correct answer.

HIJKLMNO = H to O = H2O, which is a substance

Thank you everyone for such quick answers- I thoroughly re-read the
way the question was stated in the "Parade" Sunday magazine in my
newspaper, and it said, quote, "What substance do the letters HIJKLMNO
represent?" NOW I see that the word "represent" was mjisleading to
me!!- I think those of you who answered "H2O are absolutely right!!-
THANKS!- Shermie

Since we seem to have nailed it, I'll post it as an answer:

This "cryptic crossword" is for H2O. The subsstance is "water." See
this Australian Broadcast Corp. site:
ABC
"Lingua Franca -- Word Games" (Nov. 10, 2003)
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/arts/ling/stories/s964083.htm

Google search strategy:
HIJKLMNO + word
