I have found the following refernce to a monograph on Urea, in a
lecture given by the late Dr Hans Nieper of Germany. I would like more
details about this monograph, i.e. how to obtain it or how to contact
the author, there may be an error in the spelling of the author's name
(Amat) as I have not found it in combination with Urea Monograph

"Then, in 1987, Amat, the Spanish biochemist and neurologist, issued a
l,000-page monograph on the biochemical importance of urea. This study
only exists in Spanish, but it is, however, indispensable for every
oncologist and immunologist."

Hello.

The monograph that you seek is almost certainly "Cancer : teoria
bioquimica y practica clinica" by Joaquin Amat Larraz.

As my colleague Scriptor points out in his comment below, Joaquin Amat
Larraz is the Spanish biochemist who has suggested urea as a treatment
for cancer.

According to an Italian web page, Joaquin Amat Larraz wrote a book
about his theories and sent it to all the important medical schools in
Europe and America. The title of the book was "Cancer, Teoria
biochimica e pratica clinica" (or "Cancer : teoria bioquimica y
practica clinica").

See disinformazione.it:
"JOAQUIN AMAT LARRAZ:
Medico.
clinica".

I did an "author search" for "Joaquin Amat" in a UK-based library
catalog called COPAC:
http://www.copac.ac.uk/copac/wzgw

The catalog entry for "Cancer : teoria bioquimica y practica clinica"
indicates that the book is indeed 1000+ pages long, so this is clearly
the monograph to which Nieper was referring. The book actually seems
to have been published in 1985 & 1986 rather than 1987.

Here is the catalog entry for the book:

Main Author: Amat, Joaquin
Title Details: Cancer : teoria bioquimica y practica clinica /
[Joaquin Amat Larraz]
Publisher: Benicarlo : J. Amat Larraz, 1986
Physical desc.: 1070p : ill(some col) : forms
Language: Spanish
source: COPAC author search

As for obtaining a copy, your best bet is probably a library. As the
Italian page above indicates, Amat sent his book to many of the
important medical schools in the U.S. & Europe, so it seems to be
available in many libraries.

If you're in the U.S., you could almost certainly obtain the book
through inter-library loan via your local public library. Or, if you
give me an approximate idea of your location, I could try to locate a
library near you that has the book. Let me know.

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the monograph, but it might
be helpful to know that the scientist's name may very well be spelled
correctly; I've found numerous references to Spanish scientists named
Amat.

There are 46 references to a P. Amat on MedLine:

http://www.food-allergens.de/j-index/j-index00-02.html

Here the name is given as "Amat Par P":

http://revista.seaic.es/agosto2001e/

http://allergyadvisor.com/hidden3.htm

I believe it's likely that "Amat Par" is the actual surname, and the
first initial is "P", on the basis of this Google search of Spanish
web pages:

://www.google.com/search?as_q=&num=100&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=amat+par&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=lang_es&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=off

Another possibility is "JA Amat", mentioned here:

http://ebd10.ebd.csic.es/mywork/publist.html

http://academic.evergreen.edu/n/nadkarnn/monteverde/Plant-Animal.html

There is an M. Amat who is affiliated with the Laboratory of Organic
Chemistry at the University of Barcelona:

I hope a Researcher who has access to academic databases will be able
to find the monogtaph you're seeking.

Please excuse the typo in my comment. By "monogtaph," of course, I
meant "monograph."

I have not been able to trace the monograph, but I have most likely
found out the full name of the author: Dr. Joaquin Amat Larraz, a
neurologist from Zaragoza, Spain.
Dr. Amat Larraz is best known as the inventor of an Urea-based
anti-cancer medication called "Amatrisan". Though the medicament had
not been approved by Spanish authorities, he used it for the treatment
of patients in his clinic in Castellon, Spain. The illegal medicament
has now been found ineffective and Dr. Joaquin Amat Larraz has been
sentenced 11 years in prison by the Supreme Court of Spain in April
2003.
