Question ID: 28204
I purchased a PC from Alienware Computer Systems, which offers PC's in
several snazzy colors.
My computer case, mouse, and keyboard are all in "Cyborg Green". (You
can see examples of that exact color on their web page.)
http://www.alienware.com

While Alienware does sell CRT monitors in the same snazzy colors, they
only sell flat-panel monitors in boring white and black.

Where can I purchase a matching flat-panel monitor? I'm looking for
something 19-21", not outrageously priced, and from a reputable
manufacturer.
I'm willing to settle for another snazzy (not boring
white/beige/black) color other than Cyborg Green as long as it
tastefully matches. Additionally, I'm also interested in general in
computer/monitor manufacturers that offer aesthetically pleasing
(non-Macintosh) products. Why does everyone make such ugly computers?

You wouldn't believe how much time I've wasted searching the Internet
for "green monitor" or "colored monitor" ...
Thanks

After lots of searching around (e.g. lcd + monitor + "color choice"),
I only found one big LCD monitor that comes in different colors, not
just black and white. This Planar Systems monitor
(http://www.planar.com/monitors/PT1814NUV.asp) comes in sapphire blue,
ruby red, and clear in addition to black and white. It's only 18.1"
though.

Personally, I think it's pretty difficult to match cyborg green to
another non-neutral color (black, white, gray). You might want to
consider looking for a monitor with a thin bezel (the "frame"
surrounding the screen) and/or a metallic finish that looks cool and
doesn't clash with bright green. One example is the 18.1" Sony SDM-N80
(http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/displays/sdm_n80.shtml) that comes in
"metallic blue and titanium".

Finally, I thought you might be very interested in Directron's custom
paint jobs (http://www.directron.com/directron/monitormod.html). You
can either buy a monitor from them (they carry most of the big-name
brands) or ship them your own. They strip the original paint, repaint,
and then coat in a nice finish. They will do any solid color as well
as patterns like marbling and splattering. Costs only $159. The
company also sells/does a lot of modifications to make your computer
look cool, like airbrushing artwork or putting a window in the case.

When you at that, why to stop at one color only?
You may have several monitors in one nice frame holder and have
each panel painted differently. Holder (just black I am afraid) is at
http://9xmedia.com/
but can be painted to, I think :-)

I have successfully spray-painted both LCD monitors as well as CRTs
with no adverse effects. I'm sure the manufacturers would go nuts
over the fact that I painted the hardware, but as long as you don't
use lots of spray through the rear vent holes, it works very nicely to
match decor.

Or, you could build a "picture frame" around the edges of the LCD
monitor in the color of your choice.
