i want to live by a warm white sandy beach in a beach hut, where i can
fish everyday and barbeque it at night. i'm a UK citizen, I'll want my
shack for 6 months from March 2004 - This is NOT a 2 week holiday -
I'd also like to have internet access nearby if possible. Where in the
world can this be ?

Hello kambo-ga:

I will be very interested in answering this question. It will be
better if you can tell the researchers where will you want this beach
hut and at what price?

Thanks.

hi there leader,
thanks for the reply as far as specifics go.
I don't want to spend more than $200 per month on the accommodation
and possibly use of boats etc. Having Internet access nearby would be
great but its not the most essential, I do want clear blue water,
white sand, NOT A HOLIDAY RESORT, somewhere possibly remote where i
can live off the sea and land without too much hassle for 6 months and
get on with my paitings, without getting too cold.

As far as 'where' goes, that's sort of the whole question :)

hi there - i envy you the potential 6-month getaway to pursue your art
in such beautiful surroundings as you contemplate. you didn't state
how near/far away [and i understood that "where" is precisely the
point of your question] so i don't know if you have a limit on what
you can spend for airfare, or if the $200 month is your absolute
limit. you are planning far enough ahead of the trip that you should
be able to get good airfare deals wherever you end up going.

the Marshall Islands/Atolls sprang to mind first. here's a website
you can check out:
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/pacific/marshall_islands/printable.htm#money

it certainly meets the white sandy beaches, fishing, and 'warmness'
criteria. you may be able to negotiate a long-term rate with an
innkeeper that's cheaper than the ones listed on the website, which
are [for lodging at its cheapest] about $30 a day, which would put you
well over the $200/mo. limit.

for a stay of 6 months, you may also need to check into visas, versus
just your passport entry. some countries require that you have your
plane ticket home "in hand" as proof you don't intend to take up
permanent residence.

you might also wish to check the British Embassy website for any
terrorist or other domestic warnings before you make your final
decision.

if i find some other possibilities, i'll post another comment later.
good luck, and happy "Gaugain-ing"...

search criteria:
"white sand beaches"
"cheap living oceanside"

hi Punzel, this is a good start, although in this instance i am a bit
doubious about previous Atomic Bomb experiments & the heavy presence
of US military personel on the islands.

the airfare would be a seperate kitty and that can be what ever it
turns out i guess, i take it you haven't been to the Marshall isles
yourself, i 'll investigate further, in the meanwhile i'd be delighted
to hear more about your other finds.

No answer here unfortunately, but...if you find this place, a warm
white sandy beach with a hut to live in, clear blue oceans to swim in,
and a nearby high speed internet connection, will you take me with
you?

I'm quiet and neat, and I require little to no care.
