Hello coolishjoe-ga:

I found several furniture retailers in San Antonio that carry the
kinds of designs that interest you:

Norwalk Furniture is sold at Furniture Concepts in San Antonio:
15675 N. San Pedro Ave, San Antonio
(210- 494-7764):
http://www.norwalkmfg.com/locationquery.asp?state=tx
You can also click the "Interactive Catalog" link at left on that page.

Norwalk also carries Joe Ruggiero "International" furniture designs line:
http://www.norwalkfurnitureidea.com/ruggiero/
Explore this furniture line in more depth at "Ruggiero's Ideas":
http://www.ruggieroideas.com/
Then click on links, such as the "Joe Ruggiero Total Home Collection,"
in the green pop-up box. If you're interested, Furniture Concepts
should be able to order Ruggiero furniture for you, or may even have
some pieces in their showroom.

Ethan Allen has a store in San Antonio:
2819 N.W. Loop 410
San Antonio, TX 78230
(210-341-8108)

Ethan Allen is famous for carrying a wide variety of high-quality
furniture. They also offer a free consulting service to help customers
with interior design ideas. See:
http://www.ethanallen.com/ea/com.ethanallen.ecom.HomePageServlet
Click on "Products" to view items. You can also click on "Collections"
on that page to bring up furniture in Ethan Allen's specialty lines,
such as "Casual Contemporary," "Classic Elegance," etc. I had some
difficulty searching subcategories of furniture lines, such as
"Radius," but if you visit the store in San Antonio, the staff should
be able to show you catalogs of items of interest, in addition to
what's on display in the store.

As a side note: I have a relative who owns a furniture store (but not
in Texas!), and the furniture in the showroom often represents less
than half the items a furniture store actually sells. Obviously,
retailers devote most of their floorspace to high-volume-sales lines.
Always ask if you can go through catalogs in order to browse the
avant-garde, trendier brands.

Stower's Furniture in San Antonio:
210 West Rector Street
San Antonio, TX 78216
(210-342-9411)
http://www.furniturefan.com/stores/default.aspx?StoreID=23579
has a very wide array of designs, and they offer free delivery.
According to their homepage, they carry:

"*18 Unique lifestyle galleries for more convenience.
*From formal to casual, Stowers' showroom is arranged by lifestyles:
*Provence reflects the European countryside.
*Vintage Fair offers a distinguished yet relaxed look.
*The Loft is casually chic with a youthful approach.
*Shop Collector's Market for exotic accents and eclectic accessories."

You can also click around Stower's site to see such major retail
furniture lines as Drexel, Nichols and Stone, and Lexington, in
everything from provincial to contemporary designs. But I think the
specialty lines, listed above, will be more to your liking. I wasn't
able to find those in the site's online catalog, so you'll have to
visit the store to view those items.

Star Furniture in San Antonio:
http://www.starfurniture.com/
Has a picture of very traditional furniture on its homepage, but if
you go to their FAQ:
http://www.starfurniture.com/faq.html
you'll see a list of brands, some of which may interest you.

Those include Klaussner:
http://www.klaussner.com/index.html
which has a range of styles. For example, "Realistic":
http://www.klaussner.com/divisions/details/realistic.html
and Klaussitalia (made in Italy):
http://www.klaussner.com/divisions/klaussitalia.html
(Click on "See the collection.")

Star also carries Natuzzi:
http://www.natuzzi.com/
Click on "USA" at right, which will bring up a "Collections" link that
will enable you to check out some furniture in the Natuzzi line.

You can see Star Furniture's San Antonio location on this map:
http://www.starfurniture.com/locationsS.html
Or call 210-558-7800.

You may want to try the Home Co. in San Marcos:
http://www.thehomeco.com/
which carries a variety of styles:
http://www.thehomeco.com/about_us.htm
You can see some of the store's inventory at:
http://www.thehomeco.com/collectors.htm
Then click on the graphic at bottom left to bring up different brands.
(I found this site slightly difficult to navigate.)

I also took the liberty of expanding my search to Austin, where I
found Scott & Cooner:
http://www.scottcooner.com/sc1.html
(512-480-0436)
which specializes in ultra-modern furniture. Be patient while clicking
around; these links take some time to load, but some of the pieces I
saw there are very impressive.

I also stumbled across a store called Cris's Bare Wood Furniture, in San Antonio:
http://www.smartpages.com/home/crissbarew13705694;jsessionid=DKOG0KR2N1IKVQFI4GCBF2Q
but I couldn't find a page displaying inventory. You may want to check
it out, though.

You can also go to Smart Pages:
http://www.smartpages.com
and type "furniture" into the "Business Type" box, and "San Antonio"
and TX" in the location boxes. That will bring up a list of 216
furniture retailers in San Antonio.

The problem with the Smart Pages search is that it will mostly give
you links that only provide the stores' addresses and phone numbers,
without much clue as to what types of furniture they carry. Still, if
you hear about a furniture store that has what you want, this is a
good place to find that store's phone number and location.

While scrolling through Smart Pages I found "Home Furnishing Consultant":
http://www.smartpages.com/home/homefurnis12607419;jsessionid=5ZHMMT54DI4O3QFI22BBF2Q
(210) 673-4669, 7806 Glider Ave., San Antonio.
That may be an interior design firm, but they should be able to direct
you to a store that has the type of furniture you want. You may even
need to consider hiring a designer if you can't find a store in the
area that carries just what you want.

Here's a list of Texas furniture stores, listed by town. Many of the
stores listed have clickable links:
http://www.furniturebrains.com/states/texas.htm#site%20map

Search Strings:
"contemporary furniture stores" AND "San Antonio"
"contemporary furniture San Antonio"
"European furniture stores" AND "San Antonio"
"modern furniture San Antonio"

I hope my research is of help to you. Please post a "Request For
Clarification" if you need help navigating any of the above links, or
if you need me to clarify any of the information I've given you.

Good luck with your furniture hunting!
