Hi leftright,

The following are the results of my research for the information you are seeking.

1. How many college students are there in the US?

There are approximately 15,600,000 students enrolled in colleges and
universities, according to the National Center for Education
Statistics.

You can also find this and other data regarding enrollment of college
students at the following site:

U.S. Census Bureau

2. How many of them (%-wise) use laptop computers?

??The percentage of college students who own PCs -- currently 87
percent -- has consistently increased from 75 percent three years ago,
according to the semiannual STUDENT MONITOR survey. And the trend
shows no signs of changing, thanks to the growing popularity of
multiple PC ownership, laptop PCs??
(?)
?According to the survey by STUDENT MONITOR, a record 41 percent of
student PC owners now own a laptop PC and for the first time ever, 54
percent of those planning to purchase a new PC plan to purchase a
laptop PC, the most popular type of PC among college students -- and
for good reason. Laptops make it easier for students to work on class
projects anywhere on campus or if they visit Mom and Dad for the
weekend.?

??The survey shows that of the commuter students who responded, 83%
own home computers, while a full 60% of students who live in
dormitories own their own computer. In addition to the significant
percentage of all Thomas College students who own their own computers,
87% of all students said they regularly use computers in the school's
computer labs.?
(?)
?Rhoda also noted a trend among students towards laptop computer
usage. "We have seen an increase in the number of students who use
laptops, and that's a trend I expect to continue; it's the wave of the
future," Rhoda explained. "A laptop computer is versatile; students
can bring it to the library or to class. It is likely that we will add
more computer ports available in classrooms in support of this
trend."?

Thomas College: CompSurvey

?Students were asked to indicate if they currently own a PC. The
results indicated that the majority of students (91%) have PCs. Of
this 91%, 51% of students have desktops, 29% have laptops, and 11% of
students have both??

??A Campus Computing Project survey shows that 80 percent of colleges
and universities now offer wireless local area networks (LANs), which
allow students to submit assignments electronically, send e-mail
messages or do online research when they are away from a wired
Internet connection. At Stanford, more than two-thirds of students use
laptops and consider increased wireless LAN access on campus an
important or very important resource.?

Dear rainbow-ga,

AMAZING work!

So impressed.

We have need of more research like this asap, today ideally, and
wonder whether you can help us. I don't see a way through Google to
post more questions directly to you. Do you know how to accomplish
this? If not, please get in touch with me directly. I fear Google will
try to filter out certain symbols etc if I post it here so I'll
semi-code it as: seth at ergotouch dot com

Hope to hear from you!!!
