Hello rerun2000-ga: It is a pleasure to answer your question. Let me start by stating that this is one of the most difficult and controversial questions that I have encountered. Not becaue, it is problematic but because no body has the exact figures for a specific keyword. So why am I answering this question? The reason for answering this question is to provide you a reasonable figure and most importantly, give you a better idea why it sometimes gets difficult to answer such a question and where to look for the 'number of searches per day'. Please don't get frustrated, allow me to assume that you are a novice to 'keywords' (although you may know much more than me). I will go step by step in explaining exactly what we need to know. First let us see how many daily searches are done on the internet as this is very importnat in understanding this question.? The most reputable companies in this field such as Neilson/ NetRatings and Media Matrix only provide an estimate size of the internet search engines with other relevant sources. They do not provide the figures for the 'number of searches per day'. Please consult the reports from these companies concerning size: Neilson/Net Ratings http://www.searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156451 Media Matrix ratings http://www.searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156431 So as to count the approximate number of searches per day, Dan Sullivan the editor of http://www.searchenginewatch.com evaluated the provided figures and came to a conclusion that there are close to 319 million searches per day on the major search engines of the internet. For more information, please consult: http://searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156461 (The figures in the report are the quotes by the mangement of search engines. Dan Sullivan came out with far different figures that are described at the bottom of the article). The estimated figures by Dan Sulivan are considered by many to be one of the best statistical estimates of 'number of searches', anywhere. That is why it is used by Word Tracker http://www.wordtracker.com for its studies. So now that we have an approximate figure for the number of searches per day i.e ~ 319 million. Let's move on to your question that asks for the number of searches per day on the 'furniture' related terms. There are few websites which provides us with approximate figures for the 'keywords'. Let us look at those websites to predict the number of searches per day for the furniture related terms. WORD TRACKER One of the best is Word Tracker http://www.wordtracker.com. It provides you with the rankings of your keywords and its frequency of search. For example, if you type 'furniture', it tells you rough estimates of the number of times the word was searched. For example, I got 19704 'counts' for furniture that if multiplied by 1.035 will provide us with the number of searches per day. In this case it was about 20400 that is dentoed by 'predict'. For further explanation on how good are these estimates and how the figures are compiled (why multiply by 1.035), please click on 'explain', once in the database. HOW TO CHECK FOR YOUR KEYWORD 1. Go to http://www.wordtracker.com 2. Click on 'trial' on the top menu. 3. Provide your name and e-mail address 4. Type in the keyword in the seach box. You may also click on the keyword 'furniture' to get more relevant terms like 'furniture bedroom' and 'office furniture' etc. HIT BRAIN Hit Brain is in its Beta Version that predicts the number of searches for the most popular keywords. It just provides the ranking of keywords and the frequency of its occurance in 'one million search'. But we can predict the number of searches per day from these figures. For example, Hit Brain http://www.hitbrain.com had three search terms for furnitre. Furniture that was ranked 116th, Furniture Store and Furniture Stores. In order to estimate the number of searches per day for a certain keyword, I took the frequency of the keyword occurance in Million and multiplied it by 319 million (total number of searches per day on the internet). Although, the figures for the term 'furniture' were 5000 less than the figures for furniture at Word Tracker but figures for 'furniture store' and 'furniture stores' were almost the same as estimated by Word Tracker. I conducted search for other words like 'pool tables'and 'periodic table' and came out with approximately similar figures to Word Tracker. HOW TO CHECK FOR YOUR KEYWORD 1. Go to http://www.hitbrain.com 2. Click on 'top keywords alphbetical' from the left hand side menu. 3. Use the 'Jump To' button to find the relevant keyword. 4. After you get the database listing Freq/M (frequency per million), multiply that by 319 to get a rough estimate. IMPORTNAT: Note that Freq/M is for search per day. OVERTURE SEARCH TERM SUGGESTION TOOL Overture is the largest 'pay per click' search engine. It is the only search engine that allows anyone to search for the total number of searches by any keyword. When, I searched for the keyword 'furniture' and it provided me with 676136 searches in October for this keyword i.e ~22,000 searches per day. BUT Word Tracker and Hit Brain had lower figures for all the search engines combined. Why? Looking back at the article that was written by Dan Sulivan for the number of searches per day on the internet http://searchenginewatch.com/reports/article.php/2156461 We should note that Overture management provided the figures of 167 million search per day whereas Dan Sulivan and other reputable companies such as Media Matrix and Neilson Net Ratings provided figures of much fewer searches per day. Taking this factor into account, we can't be too sure of the total number. On the other hand we can get an idea of the searches per day when comparing many relevant keywords with each other. HOW TO CHECK: Please click on the following link to search: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ Alternately: 1. Go to http://www.overture.com 2. Click on Advertiser Center 3. Click on 'Tools' from the top menu. (not the much visible main menu). 4. Click on Search Term Suggestion Tool Bruce Clay Tool Bruce Clay Consulting company is the leader in search engine optimization. It has a tool where you will get an estimate of the number of searches per day on the internet. 'Furniture' revealed '124284' searches daily. I know it is huge but it takes into account the total phrase meaning anything which has furniture in it counts. For example, furniture, office furniture, furniture for school etc. CONCLUSION As you can judge for yourself, how difficult it is to come out with exact figures for a search term unless a search engine itslef provides a table (as is the case with Overture) but again the table might be controversial. I hope I am able to answer something that will fulfil your needs. Please clarify if you are stuck or have further questions. I will be obliged to help you.
