Many years ago I stayed in Hotel Kenya in Granada, Spain. This year
(for romantic reasons!) I want to return. However 20 mins searching
in vain leads me to suppose that it has closed - I could't find it.

However - It's such a tourist hot-spot, I wonder if the Hotel could
still be open and operating under a different name ?? Can you
identify it?

Here are the details -
Called Hotel Kenya (I think it was the same in Spanish and English)
City - Granada, Spain
Location - I don't know the name of the road, but so far as I can
remember it was half way up the mouintain on the way up to the
Alhambra (the Moorish palace that is the tourist draw in Granada).
i.e. it would be listed not as a City-Centre hotel, but as near the
Alhambra
It was a small/medium hotel, in an old building (not a purpose built hotel)

Can you help me locate it, and make a very special weding anniversary?

Hello again Botogol!

I am confident that I have located the hotel you have in mind. It?s
the Hotel Kenia Nevada. The reason it was so hard to locate was for
the way ?Kenia? is spelled. Here is a link to their website where you
may view a photo of the hotel.

On page 3 of this publication there is another photo of the hotel.
There is also a small map. The Hotel is located 19 miles from Granada.

no sorry- this is definitely not the one.

The Hotel I stayed in might have been spelt Kenia (but Kenya feels
right) but it wasn't that one. No, it was definetrly IN Granada...
as I said not city centre, but in the Alhambra slopes. I expect it
was the one mentioned in the conference link (see comment below) so
tit measn it was runnnig in 1998 at least.....

Dear Botogol,

I searched the the Spain yellow pages and unfortunately I couldn't
find a Kenya Hotel there either.

Have you checked out the pictures of the hotels I mentioned in my comment.

If you click on the link to each hotel you will see a photo of the
Hotel. Perhaps you may recognize one of the Hotels as Hotel Kenya if
its name has changed its name since you were there.

I've looked arefully at all the hotels, and I'm convnced that none of
them are the one.

Most of them can be ruled out immediately, as they are big modern
things. The one that's closest to the hotel I stayed in is
http://www.eel.es/granada/hoteles/sines/sines.htm

It's a converted old house (palacio), with 10 bedrooms, and a
courtyard etc. which is exactly the sort of thing I stayed in called
the Kenys. But I'm certain this isn't actually it (though perhaps
I'll stay there anyway!)

What happens as regards payment when you are unsuccessful? I
appreciate you've done some work, and perhaps the answer cannot be
found. But I still haven't go ti.

One thing that would be helpful I am certain that the hotel is closed
(and who knows if it's still open under a new name? Perhaps it became
an aparmtnets or something) But perhaps you could locate some
contacts in Grnada that I could phone up and ask - Local Tourist
Office, Chamber of Commerce, Local Association of Hotel Owners?? If
it still existed in 1998, then some people in the tourist trade round
there might be able to remember it.

Dear Botogol,

I am very disappointed that the Hotel Kenia that I located was not the
Hotel you had in mind. I am also frustrated since the Hotel that you
remember can not be matched to any of the Hotel pictures from the list
I provided.

You asked about a local tourist office, Chamber of Commerce or a local
Association of Hotel Owners. I did some research and found the
following contacts:

The best candidate I have found now - via some searching - is the
Hotel Guadaloupe (the link is on my other PC or I'd give it here)
which from the photos, approximate location, description could very
well be the one I remember.

Hi botogol!

I didn?t locate Hotel Kenya for you but here is a list of hotels in
Granada and the surrounding areas. If you click on the link to each
hotel you will see a photo of the Hotel. Perhaps you may recognize one
of the Hotels as Hotel Kenya may have changed its name since you were
there.

There was a congress in 1998 and the participants stayed at Hotel Kenya.

?Because of the special characteristics of the Sierra Nevada, all
participants must lodge in the Hotel Kenya (headquarters for the
Congress), it is a four-star hotel (single room with breakfast and
supper for 8750 ptas/day, 6350 ptas per person for a double room), for
which "Viajes Castulo S.A.L.", which has been designated the official
travel agency, will take care of the reservations. The evening meals
can also be arranged through the agency.

The participants who so desire can make air or rail ticket
reservations from their points of origin to Granada, by contacting
this agency, which will provide free transportation from the airport
or train station to Hotel Kenya and back again.?
