Is Samuel Bagster & Sons still in business? Did it go out of business
or get acquired by another publisher? Who (if anyone) owns the rights
to books it published? I believe 1950's is the latest I've seen
something under their imprint.

I have found two different publishers in the US currently offering
works originally published by Samuel Bagster & Sons. There is also a
British publisher with one of Bagster's books in their catalogue.

Are you interested in a particular title, or are you more interested
in finding out when and why the firm closed? I think I have found the
last book published by Bagster & Sons, and have reason to believe the
company stopped trading within the following three years. It may not
be possible to find out more than this.

Can you let us know how much detail you need for a satisfactory
answer? Do be sure to say if there is a specific book or books which
interest you.

Thank-you - Leli

I would like to know what happened to the corporation, and especially
who (if anyone) owns the rights to their catalog. I know that many
publishers reprint now-public domain works originally published by
Bagster, but who owns the rights?

I'd consider as an answer either when the compay ceased to exist
(dissolution? bankruptcy?) and/or the name of whoever bought the
company or its assets.

The latest book I know of, and one of specific interest to me, is:

Marshall, 1958. Alfred Marshall, The Interlinear Greek-English New
Testament: the Nestle Greek Text with a literal English Translation.
London: Samuel Bagster and Sons, 1958.

But I'd be happy just knowing when Bagster disappeared and who, if
anyone, absorbed it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your message.

I've sent out a few emails in search of accurate information about
Bagster & Sons. If I hear anything useful in reply, I'll let you know,
of course.

Am I right to assume you don't require information about the US
publisher of Marshall's Interlinear New Testament? There's no need to
reply to this clarification request unless you want details of current
editions of Marshall's translation.

I'll be in touch if I can discover anything further about Bagster.

Leli

That address now contains a handful of music publishers.
