I read some time ago that there was a really powerful single-dose
medicine, perhaps by Glaxo-Smith Kline that supposedly cost about $40
but was good for even the most severe migraines.
 I haven't heard much since then (eight years ago)and would like to
know if it's still available.
 I get about five to ten really really bad headaches a year, so bad I
can only lie down until they pass, usually for half a day.
 Since I'm self-employed, that's money I'm losing while in bed.
 $40 to quickly quell something like that is more than worthwhile.
 Since I've had headaches like these for the last ten years or so, I
would tend to doubt a tumor or incipient stroke as the cause.
 Can anyone tell me about this medicine or any other highly potent
headache remedies?

It's a pleasure to answer another one of your interesting questions.  :)  

Upon reading your post I knew immediately what medication you were
referring to because it is the one I take if I feel a migraine coming
on - or if I've waited too long and I'm in the throes of a full blown
migraine headache, I will take it and within an hour I'm feeling
normal again.

The medication you are referring to is called Imitrex, which is
manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline.
