I'm trying to find the age and history of an old Mandolin with the
metal tag "Franz Janisch Musikhaus - Wien VII Neubaugasse 47" ... I
can provide a photo if needed.

Dear yomain,

The inscription on the metal tag will, I'm afraid, not of much help:
"Musikhaus" means simply a shop where musical instruments, sheet
music, etc. are sold, not manufactured. So the tag does not indicate
who made the mandolin. Also, "Wien VII Neubaugasse 47" is only the
address of the music store: Vienna (Austria), VII city district, and
the street, Neubaugasse 47. Franz Janisch's music store does not
exist anymore, nor is a successor shop located at that address - I
checked the Austrian Yellow Pages.

I nevertheless hope that another Researcher will be able to help you.
Regards,
Scriptor

The instrument has a engraved branding on the main body with a logo
that says, "Portopiccola" at the top and "Cata...[rest illegible]" at
the bottom.

I've placed pictures of the instrument here:

Thanks!
