I am looking for chemical makeup of "Valve Grinding Compound" or "Course metal polish." This material is typically used to seat valves or polish metal. Possibly, I am looking for a bulk supplier of a Valve Grinding Compound that: 1.) Adheres well to surfaces to be treated 2.) Is water-soluble. 3.) Must be easy to remove with just water and a brush. Please send me the ingredients, grading and suppliers of this type of material.

Hello felixtkat1, This was a pretty tough question, but I think I have found what you require. Here is a list of the most common abrasives used in lapping compounds: Silicon Carbide White Aluminum Oxide Boron Carbide Garnet Diamond These abrasives are used with various greases and water soluble carriers in combination with different grit sizes to make all lapping compounds. Following are links to MSDS spec sheets for several manufacturer's compounds: http://hazard.com/msds/mf/perm/files/80037.TXT http://www.goodson.com/msds/VLC-4.pdf http://msds.ogden.disa.mil/msds/owa/web_msds.display?imsdsnr=186107 http://www.wurth.com.au/msds/0890_199.htm http://www.us-products.com/sitehtml/techdatamsds.html These two links are for information about "Clover" brand compounds: http://www.techsavvy.com/industry/file/national/03ttp/fel10.html?id=76394&comp_id=03TTP&base_region=* http://www.newmantools.com/clover.htm I could not find any pricing for bulk product for any of the brands mentioned above. It seems that the manufacturers sell in 1# cans. However, I found the following information on bulk silicon carbide. If you want bulk quantities, you should be able to mix your own compound using the provided information. http://www.jaderockshop.com/abrasivegrain.html I believe that this should answer your questions and allow you to accomplish whatever polishing/lapping you have in mind. Good luck, Redhoss
