Hi tucsonjim,
Well, I am assuming you aren't asking us to produce just another long
list of helpful links, but rather hand pick some useful ones to help
save you time and get you off on the right track. The place to begin
is at the Agora website itself, which does offer quite a bit of help -
have you had a look at the Agora Manual?
AgoraCart Online Manual:
http://www.agoracart.com/help/
AgoraScript - PERL in Your Pages:
http://www.agoracart.com/help/agorascript.html
Agora.cgi Shopping Cart - Free Forum:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/agora2/
AgoraCart Cool Tips & FAQ:
http://www.agoraguide.com/faq/
The next place to look is for some basic Perl (Practical Extraction
and Report Language) tutorials:
Perl Primer:
"Welcome to the Perl Primer. My name is Jeff and I had been in the
process learning Perl/CGI since March of 1997. Having had no prior
programming experience, it's was a rough road. I've found that most of
the innumerable resources on the Internet are for people who are
already programmers. I hope to meet some of the needs of beginners. I
hope to provide you with guidance, my experience with learning Perl
and hopefully a few laughs along the way."

Perl Tutorial:
http://www.webdesigns1.com/perl/tutorial.html
Beginner's Guide to CGI Scripting with Perl:
"Before you get started, I'd like you to take a moment to consider the
quotation at the top of this page. As a beginner, you'll find that the
combination of Unix and Perl gives you more than enough rope to hang
yourself. One of Perl's claims to fame is that it makes "easy things
easy" - which it does, but among the things it makes easy are the
accidental mangling of your files, or the opening up of gaping
security holes on your Web server. So be careful. Or, as Perl's
creator, Larry Wall, likes to say, 'have the appropriate amount of
fun.'"

Is perl difficult to learn?
"Not at all. Many people find Perl extremely easy to learn. There
are at least three main reasons for this.
The first reason is that most of Perl has been derived from standard
utilities, tools, and languages that you are (probably) already
familiar with. If you have any knowledge of the C programming
language and standard C library, the Unix Shell, sed and awk, Perl
should be simple and fun for you to learn.
The second reason that Perl is easy to learn is that you only have
to know a very small subset of Perl to be able to get useful results.
In fact, once you can master
#!/usr/local/bin/perl
print "Hello, world\n";
you can start writing Perl scripts."

I hope this is what you are looking for but if you had something else
in mind, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get
back in touch before closing/rating my answer.
Thank you,
hummer

Hey Hummer,
What you have supplied me with are really great resources and I'll
definitely use them, however, they may not solve my problem. Let me
see if I can clarify: to create the cart, the Perl inserts a
pre-designed header, a pre-designed footer, and then generates the
product stuff in the middle, and they all much mesh. I can change the
header, the footer, but I don't know how or if I can get at the stuff
in the middle. The answer may be it the resources that you've
suggested, but I've already spent some serious time reading, learning,
and trying to figure it out. This leads me to my thinking, that if I
just could talk to someone in the know, he'd/she'd tell me how once,
and I'd be off and running. Long response I know, but it's a difficult
problem to describe. Thank you for searching out the great resources
for me, and for the quick response.

Hi Jim, sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm not the person to help you
with perl - I've asked the GA editors to remove my answer so another
researcher can give you a more appropriate response. I'm sorry I've
caused you a delay in receiving help. Sincerely, hummer

Hi Hummer,
If you didn't understand the question, then its my fault for not
stating it clearly enough. Please do not remove the answer. You see, I
think that there are people on the Internet who, for a fee, will
provide one-on-one help with Perl related problems, but I haven't been
able to locate them by searching, likely because of my choice of
keywords and phrases, and that's where I'd hoped (and still do
hope)that you'd come in.
Sorry I didn't state the question clearly enough.

Jim, I'll have another look but my request for removal is already in
the pipes, so my answer could disappear at any moment - it's up to the
editors what they want to do. I'm really sorry for this - I was trying
to save you time and I seem to having the opposite effect and causing
you more trouble than is necessary! I'll let you know how my renewed
search goes - thanks for your patience with me.... hummer

Hi again Jim,
I'm waiting to hear back from some enquiries I've made but in the
meantime (and in case my answer vanishes), here's something
interesting - you can "rent-a-coder" by placing a bid:
Rent-a-Coder:
http://www.rentacoder.com/RentACoder/default.asp
How it works:
"Posting a bid request is free, and you are under no obligation to
accept any bids sent to you unless you choose to."

Example bid for agora cart help:

Also, just two pages of interest:
This overview assumes your store is installed and ready to work with:

Working with Agoracart:

Will let you know when I hear back from anyone. hummer

Good news, Jim.
I've had a positive response to one of my enquiries. I don't know her
personally but I know of her and I can recommend her services. I don't
know what she will charge, but I'm sure it will be very reasonable.

Tell her hummer sent you - she has already read your question so you're all set.
Let me know how it goes. hummer
