Since wandering into some website, I was redirected to about a hundred
pop-ups. Followed a frenzy of window closings. Now, ALL of my search
engines are being redirected to some bogus website offering to sell me
some program for $60 to fix the problem. It doesn't matter that I
reset my home page to ://www.google.com . . . As soon as I do
anything, my home page is either the ad for a fix, or a bogus search
page that is filled with prescription drugs, penis enlargements,
get-out-of-debt schemes, web casinos, and various crap, or a really
bogus site called Gxxxgle, (or some such) that only lets you search
for various types and flavors of porn. Help! How do I reset my home
page to Google?

In Internet Explorer, use the Tools Menu, select Internet Options and
type your address. If you are having a problem getting it to stick,
which you probably will, you will need to get some spyware killers, a
few good sites are www.spybot-spyware.com, www.spykiller.com, and
www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com. There are many, many more out there some
you have to pay for, some are free. My humble advice is you should run
more than one. Run a google search for spyware. When I ran a check
for my computer at work I had over 1,500 spyware stuff...now it runs
great, and I check for this stuff weekly.

You poor thing! Sounds like you got blitzed by a battery of malware
(not the same thing as a virus, so your antivirus software won't
remove it). Just a suggestions, but why don't you try getting these
two freeware programs? Download, install and run them to get rid of
the nasties that seem to have taken up residence in your system, and
then see if you can't get your home page reset back where you want it.
I don't know for sure if they'll help, but they sure helped me when I
had a similar problem.

Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoft.de/ Just get the regular Ad-Aware 6.0 - and if
the page loads in Japanese or something, click on the language chooser
link on the upper left.
