I am looking for a magazine article in a baby magazine that someone
suggested I read. She read the article in the doctor's office and is
not sure what magazine she was reading or what month. It was a "baby"
or "pregnancy" magazine that was in the ob-gyn office. She said the
name of the article which was on the front cover was something like "
Saying Goodbye to Baby Isabella". The article is about the loss of a
baby and things the doctors and hospitals should have done differently
that could have saved the baby.

Hi mollygirl,

Do you remember when your friend read the article? Do you remember
anything else she told you about the article? Any other details you
can tell us will help in the search to locate it.

Regards,
rainbow~

My freind read the article within the last couple of months at her
doctor's office. However, I don't know if she read it in a back
issue. Thanks Brenda B. Stone

Isabella Grace Torroll was the daughter of Beth and Danny Torroll.
After she died from a brain aneurysm, the Torrolls started a fund in
her memory to help the Tennessee Children's Home.

Here's a bit more about the Torroll family and Isabella's fund:

I am confident that the article your friend read was "Losing
Isabella," (as mentioned below by the remarkable bowler-ga), published
in American Baby's August 2001 issue.

Here's a brief summary of the article:

"In the August 2001 issue of American Baby magazine, there was a very
poingnant [sic] article entitled 'Losing Isabella'. It was about a
mother whose 18 month old daughter died and how she went on to have a
son, Alexander, and all about grieving for Isabella and the stresses
of her pregnancy after her loss."

This article is apparently not available online. Would you like for a
Researcher to attempt to find a copy of the magazine that you could
purchase?

I spoke with my friend today and ask her if the article was called
"Losing Isabella" from an older magazine. She said it was called "
Saying Goodbye to Baby Isabella", she said it was in a recent
magazine and it was about a premature infant that died in the hospital
several days or a few weeks after she was born. She said the article
listed the procedures that were done and after doing research she
stated mistakes the hospital and doctors made and things that could
have been done to possibly prevent her death. The specifics of the
article are why I would like to have the article. My daughter in law
will always have a high risk pregnancy, due to her condition and I
would like to read the article in the event that she becomes pregnant
again, we will be more prepared and informed hopefully to request
specific tests and procedures, which may not be standard procedure,
perhaps because they aren't covered under insurance. Regardless, I
think people should be informed of the options and that is why I want
to educate myself with as much information as possible and this mother
has done extensive research on this subject, which my friend said
sounded exactly like my grandson's problems. I even went to the
doctors office, but couldn't find the article in the waiting room.
They told me they would look through the magazines in the exam rooms,
but I havn't heard from them and it's been over 2 weeks. Hopefully,
someone out there can help me find this article. I was really hoping
it was the article in American Baby, but if that baby was 18 months,
then I know it was not the same article. I also called about getting
a back issue sent and they only had reprints of 2003. But, that
wouldn't have been the right article anyway. Thank you very much for
everything you all have done so far. I hope someone can find it for
me. Thanks very much

There is an article called "Losing Isabella" from "American Baby" #63,
no. 8, page 68 (August 2001)

Summary:

"While there's no true healing after the devastating loss of a child,
many families are able to move forward. Torroll discusses the loss of
her daughter, Isabella, and how it affected her family."

I cannot find the full text though.

Strategies for finding a copy include searching at your local public
library. "American Baby" is owned by many libraries. Also you can
visit:

http://www.americanbaby.com/

and see if you can order a back issue.
