Would you find out for me if Wesley Clark is a member of the
Democratic Leadership Council? If so, for how long? If not, then
does he have any relationship with them at all? Another question: does
it appear that Clark has any 'special interest' groups backing him?
(I would like to support him, but I am wondering about these points)

Hello.

I can find no indication that Wesley Clark is a "member" of the
Democratic Leadership Council. However, Clark has "done stuff with the
DLC," according to the group's founder.

Clark's name does not show up in the DLC's membership directory at NDOL.org:
http://www.ndol.org/new_dem_dir.cfm

Clark is also not among the leadership of the DLC, as listed on the
organization's web site:
http://www.ndol.org/ndol_ka.cfm?kaid=137

When asked about Clark in recent Newsweek interview, Democratic
Leadership Council founder Al From responded:
"Wes Clark is a very, very talented guy. He?s done stuff with the DLC.
He?s a very, very smart guy."
source: Newsweek, hosted by msnbc.com:
http://www.msnbc.com/news/968206.asp?0sl=-20

Al From's statement that Clark has "done stuff with the DLC" implies
that, while Clark has apparently participated in some way with the
group's activities, he isn't a member per se.

That's not to say that Clark isn't receiving backing from the group.
One of Clark's recent speeches is reviewed favorably on the group's
site.
 See:
"Clark Starts with Service" DLC New Dem Daily October 16, 2003:
http://www.ndol.org/ndol_ci.cfm?contentid=252098&kaid=131&subid=192

Also, some commentators have suggested that Clark is the favored
candidate of the DLC. See this article from the magazine
"Counterpunch":
"Wesley Clark for President? : Another Con Job from the Neo-Cons"
Counterpunch (US), September 18, 2003

---------

As for "special interest" groups backing Clark...

At this point, it looks like most of Clark's campaign donations are
coming from individuals rather than groups. There's a great web site
called Opensecrets.org that tracks campaign donors.

See Opensecrets.org - Wesley Clark:
http://www.opensecrets.org/presidential/summary.asp?ID=N00026187

Also see: Wesley Clark - Top Industry donations:
http://www.opensecrets.org/presidential/indus.asp?id=N00026187&cycle=2004

Also see: Wesley Clark - Top Contributors:
http://www.opensecrets.org/presidential/contrib.asp?id=N00026187&cycle=2004

As indicated, it seems that lawyers and law firms are among Clark's top backers.

search strategy:
democratic leadership council, dlc
dlc, democratic leadership council, "wesley clark"
opensecrets.org, wesley clark

I hope this helps.
