Looking for a US host that offers colocation services. I own two servers, 3U each, and my monthly bandwidth usage is 50-100 gigs. Since there are so many hosts out there and I've been burned already, what I am really looking for is a recommendation from someone who knows a good host that can provide this type of service, has good 24/7 support, and is reasonably priced (I'm willing to pay up to $400/server/month). Location in the US is not important. Any reccomendations? Thanks. |

Hello, Some of the comments posted below are probably very useful, but I have some first-hand information that may be helpful and I've decided to go ahead and try to answer this. Cybertrails ( http://corp.cybertrails.com/index.jsp ) is a hosting company in Phoenix, AZ, that offers colocation services with 24-hour tech support. They will support your mail server as well. Having actually been inside the building, I can vouch for their quality. The have the ability to do monthly/weekly/daily backups per your agreement and offer several power redundancies. including a backup generator that runs on jet fuel and would be re-filled after 12 hours of use by a diesel from a nearby airport. They are very serious about a high percentage of uptime. In the 18 months I have dealt with them, the site has only been down about 10 minutes total. and part of that was for routine maintenance. I hope this answers your question and that your experience with them is good. -rhoekmanjr- | |

As for hosting yourself, you probably don't have the connection to handle 50-100GB bandwidth. If you do, then I doubt it would be a dynamic IP address where you would need this d2g.com. As for Geocities and Homestead, there is no way you are going to get that kind of bandwidth. One solution could be Rackspace at www.rackspace.com. One quote was just over $300, but with 30GB bandwidth. Everything is customizable, so more bandwidth can be added (50GB add $54, 75GB add $121). Although I have never personally used Rackspace or known someone to use them, they are atleast a known company (you have probably seen the commercials). |

The only colocation provider I can recommend is Sprint e-Solutions. Amazing reliability, network, facilities. However, I do not know if they will meet your price target. They tend to be a bit more expensive because of their quality. Learn more at: http://www.sprintesolutions.com/services/hosting/collocation/index.jsp |

Personally, the only co-location provider that i have used is E-DeltaCom, located in Suwannee, Ga. They offer all types of solutions (racks, cages, and suites) for co-location, and can also provide DNS hosting, full time monitoring/reporting, managed security (firewalls, etc), remote eyes and hands service, internet connectivity ranging anywhere from 10/100 to OC-48 speeds, and system design, consulting, and maintenance agreements. I can honestly say that I love the fact that my equipment is located at EDC. I also have been burned in the past by a co-lo that couldnt gaurentee SLA's, power, environmental controls, etc. IMHO, EDC is a great place to be hosted at. Their personell are top notch and professional, and always great to work with. Learn more about them at www.edeltacom.com If you have any questions, feel free to ask! |

6U? Good grief. The space is worth more than $400 a month. |

I wouldn't do it :) but you could try Jacques at Efreeservers.com. He's a nice guy and close to your price. |

The company for which I work currently does its colocation at the XO facility in Secaucus, NJ. We currently pay $400 per month for a half-cabinet, plus half a megabit per month of bandwidth for $300/month. The bandwidth is burstable up to 10 Mbps. Most hosting providers bill at the 95th percentile, but XO bills at the 90th percentile (so the top 10% of your traffic is dropped when your bill is calculated). I don't have current prices, but when we negotiated our contract with them, they were selling bandwidth at the rate of ~$600/Mbps/month. Since they own their entire network the bandwidth isn't much of an expense for them, so they can play with the price. I don't know if you'd be able to swing $800 for 50-100 gigs/month. Assuming $400 for the half-cabinet, that leaves $400 for bandwidth. I'm not sure whether by gigs you mean gigabits or gigabytes, but our site did 11.3 gigabytes of traffic (not counting thousands of banner ads) for the month of May, and we're able to get by at 512kbps. We've been reasonably happy with XO. |

A reliable colocation source that has just opened is ColoGuys - try them. They're having a hard time getting initial business so a few good customers will get them going. www.cologuys.com They do colocation, shared webhosting, and can provide server clusters, depending on what your needs are. |
