Hi there,

Dr. James Van Allen did not publish a paper in Scientific American in
1950 on this topic; a complete listing of his published work can be
found at:
[ http://www.aip.org/web2/aiphome/history/ead/iowa_java_papers/19990077_content.html#bibliography2
]

If you would like, I could ceratinly compile for you his findings
about these radiation levels and human dosages from his publications.
Would this be alright?  Thanks.

The article I'm referring to was actually Scientific American, March
1959, Vol. 200, number 3, pp. 39-47. I am interested specifically in
analysis of this article.

I found this article. Apart from its tone etc., it speaks about 1958/1959
