I am looking for an old song (must be from the 60's, methinks) that
was played in an Disney animation musical TV movie from the 80's.
The film had intermezzo scenes in it, where Jiminy Cricket was the
host. Amongst the featured tracks were "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go"
by Wham!, "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, and "I Only Have Eyes For
You" by The Flamingos. There also was a Michael Jackson parody called
"Eat It".
Now, the song I'm looking for is played during a clip about the dogs
from Disney's "101 Dalmatians". The itself is a slow ballad, and the
final words are "only you".

Well, I hope this will be enough. Good luck then!

This could well be"Only You" by the Platters. You can find the lyrics
and a midi file at: http://orion.spaceports.com/~mmp/letras/OnlyYou.html
The song ends with the words:

Only you can make this change in me
for it's true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand
I understand the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
my one and only you

One and only you

Only you was the Platters first Top Ten single in 1955

Search strategy: 1. "only you" lyrics

2. "Only you" Platters

Here is a price comparison for the "Forever Gold" Platters CD which
includes this song:

I'm very sorry, but the song I'm looking for is most certainly NOT the
Platter's "Only You". Come on, would I really be asking such an
elementary question?
Again, the song's final words are "only you". And something I just
remembered: somewhere in the middle of the song, there are the words
"Help me, help me pleeeeease". I hope this helps you find the answer.
Good luck!

Well, the Platters song ends with the words "(one and) only you", it
is a slow ballad and it dates from the appropriate period. Therefore,
I consider I was justified in proposing it as an answer since it meets
your criteria. As for whether that is elementary or not, I wouldn't
know, since I have never heard of the Platters and do not know whether
they are famous or obscure <shrug>

I'll have another look and see what else I can find.

Puppy Love contains the words "help me, help me please", but not the
words "only you" http://members.aol.com/deutschfox/page/donny3d.htm

Hmm, the Yazoo one ends in "only you", but does not contain the words
"help me please"

I've looked on a number of search engines, and cannot find any lyrics
that contain "help me, help me please" and finish with "only".

I did find lists of Disney-related mailing lists and newsgroups where
there might be Disney fans who possibly have recorded the TV shows:

Dave Smith, the Disney archivist, can be contacted at Walt Disney

He or his colleagues might have the means to answer your question. I
am not able to make a call on your behalf as I am in the UK.

I hope this helps, but please feel free to request a refund if you
think I have not dealt satisfactorily with your query.

Although I got more specific information from the user comments, I'm
pretty satisfied, as I did get my answer after all.

Perhaps it is "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond. This would fit into well
with the Dalmation scene.

Wow! Now that brings back memories. My daughter must have watched this
video 3,000 times! I even remember the scene you refer to... where the
puppies are being brought out one-by-one and they think the one has
died ...then it opens its eyes and the music wells up...

The song was Puppy Love by Donny Osmond (Good call kaptkz!). Though
it doesn't end with "only you..." (I wonder if maybe you mixed it up
with something else?) But yes, in the middle it does go .."someone
help me, help me, help me please.."

The lyrics are here:

Thanks for the memories ... though now I'll be humming Donny Osmond
all day ...not sure how good that is! ;-)

Brilliant! It really is "Puppy Love"! Now that I had the title, I
managed to find out the version I'm looking for (from the TV movie
itself) was actually sung by Neil Sedaka. Anyway, thank you all for
your help. I've been looking for this particular song for years! :-)
