In the 70s, I saw an incredible movie on television called "Brothers
of the Bell" about a super secret society at high levels that
accomplished illegal
activities. Many of the dealings were political. I have searched
high and low for the movie and can not find a copy.

This is not about a band, that evidently has the same name.

People were inducted into the society, and were often able to realize
some objective....but later were asked to "pay the price". Can anyone
help me find a copy of this movie? I think it might have been in black and white.

I am certain that the movie you're seeking is "The Brotherhood of the
Bell", made in 1970. I remember seeing this thriller on television
shortly after I graduated from college. Since I knew a few people who
were members of collegiate secret societies, the storyline seemed very
relevant.

"Glenn Ford plays a man who joins a mysterious fraternity, 'The
Brotherhood of the Bell', while in college. Upon attaining wealth and
prominence, Ford discovers that the Brotherhood has been keeping tabs
on him, and expects certain favors from him in the private sector. It
dawns on Ford that the Bell is a sinister, subversive organization
bent on world domination. When he tries to bring this to the attention
of the public on a TV program hosted by a 'gonzo' talkshow star
(William Conrad), he is mocked and humiliated. Realizing that the
Brotherhood of the Bell is too big and powerful to be defeated by
conventional methods, Ford attempts to take on the organization in his
own way."

"A successful professor has his life disrupted by a secret from his
past - in his college days he became a member of a powerful secret
society, and now the society has a job for him."

Internet Movie Database: Brotherhood of the Bell, The
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0066864/

"The Brotherhood of the Bell is a secret organization of American men
who have power and influence in both government and the upper echelons
of business, education and society in general. Once sworn to secrecy
as a member, to go against the Brotherhood is to risk ruin and
ostracism. Glenn Ford?s character, after being asked to blackmail a
University professor (which results in his suicide) has a crisis of
conscience and determines to leave the Brotherhood and expose their
evil ways."
