My Hitachi DVD player (DV-P505E(UK) will not play certain DVD saying
there has been a parental violation. When I try to re-set the
parental menu to no limit I cannot, the menu offered on screen is not
as it appears in the manual. Please help!

Hi,

I cannot seem to find a user manual for your player online. Is there a
reset option somewhere in the menu? An option that would reset all
settings to default.

If not, I'll call Hitachi customer support tomorrow when they open.

Thanks.

Hello,

Does it display a menu that states the following? -->

"Parental Control Use Password?"

On a later model (P515), the manual states that you cannot change the
rating level unless the 'use password' function is set to yes. Do you
recall your password, or does your player not offer this feature?

If you do not have a password, there is a feature to reset it in the
guide for the later model I found :

Reset Password - Page 46
http://www.hitachiserviceeu.com/scripts/userguide.php/DVP515EUK_EN.pdf

Main Page for manuals
http://www.hitachiserviceeu.com/support/guides/userguides.htm

Let me know if this helps you. I couldn't offer this as an official
answer because the model number is different. In most cases you will
find that a higher model number supports many of the same features -
so it's worth a shot.

If it does not work, endo stated he would call Hitachi for you to find out.

Thanks,
SgtCory

Hi, I have tried re-setting without success. When I call up the
Parental menu I am not given the options that appear in the manual.
However if I select one of the options, press enter and then enter my
password the menu does reset itself to the correct options with
various levels for parental control. But when I try to select "no
limit" the menu reverts back to the original rubbish! I can play some
discs but it would appear not those with a parental control feature.

Hi,

I've called Hitachi and they weren't very helpful. He said that the
model you have is imported and that he doesn't have a manual for it.
He suggested going through the steps you've already been through. But
recommended you take it back to where you got it from and ask them to
fix it.

Also he said there is no master reset as far as he is aware.

Sorry this isn't more helpful.

Thanks.
