In chromdome's info on Mojica after 1947, QID 27220, he mentioned several movies that Mojica made. So now I'd like to know if any are available on video--listed on websites w/ Spanish-language videos, perhaps--if info IS available, it would need to be translated into English. (I realize that any such videos would probably NOT have English subtitles, but I would like to see it/them anyway.) |

Hola, Many of the older films are apparently unavailable (ones done before World War II), but three of the four most recent films can be found. I found that the best way to find these films online was to search on Google using the name of the movie in quote marks, followed by "VHS" not in quotes. Example search field: "yo pecador" VHS If you wish, you can try doing the same thing, but substitute "DVD" for "VHS." Fewer results will show up, however. Sometims you can get different results by including or removing the accent marks. You can follow the links from these searches to find vendors for the movies. Some of the links are out of date already, but I've found at least one vendor for each of the following three movies. Movie: "Yo, pecador" Google search: "yo pecador" vhs ://www.google.com/search?hl=es&q=%22yo+pecador%22+vhs Sample vendor: Tango Mania Films (Argentina) http://www.tangomania.com.ar/vhsp.htm Translation: "The price for each film is $40 U.S. for VHS Pal and $50 for VHS NTSC. The films are available in Spanish. For subtitles or other languages, ask us." It's probably safe to follow the e-mail link and write to the company in English. Movie: "Seguiré tus pasos" Google search: "seguiré tus pasos" vhs ://www.google.com/search?hl=es&q=%22seguir%E9+tus+pasos%22+vhs Sample vendor: Video Cinema Mexicano http://members.aol.com/jprlatin/Cine3.htm Movie: "Melodías de America" Google search: "melodías de américa" vhs ://www.google.com/search?q=%22melod%EDas+de+am%E9rica%22+vhs Sample vendor: Opera Videos http://www.dinosaur.org/opera/operamovie.htm I enjoyed reading the information that the other researcher found about Mojica. It sounds like he was an interesting man. Best wishes in securing and watching these movies! mvguy |

I'm not a researcher (yet), but here you go: Hallucinations of a derranged mind ('70, director & actor) Awakenings of the beast ('68, director & actor) Strange world of coffin Joe ('68 director & actor) At Midnight, I'll take your soul ('63 director & actor) These are available on video, in portugese with English subtitles. A simple search at Google for these titles will supply you with online stores to order the videos, e.g.: ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=%22Hallucinations+of+a+Deranged+Mind%22 As a warning, "Videohound's Golden Movie Retriever" rates all 4 films with the minimum possisble score of one bone... ;-) Marcus |

Hi, Kimmich, and welcome back! I'd just like to point out that the films listed in the comments by minibbjd and kaptkz are by the "other" Jose Mojica, Jose Mojica Marins. You may recall that in my original answer I'd used the -marins option to exclude films by this man. The films of Jose Mojica Marins enjoy a certain cult following, but they are a far cry from those of "your" Jose Mojica. Marins is known for making very strange films, heavy on the sex and horror. Not without interest, perhaps (I found websites devoted to his work which were eloquent in his defense) but not what you would call family fare. |
