i read an earlier discussion where the point seemed to be that this
would be an innocuous java debugging record or something like that
(i'm not a pc genius).  question is then, can i simply delete it
without consequence?

there was also some suspicion that this is some sort of mechanism that
traces your internet tracks and reports them to some site.
