Hi possum,
I?m guessing you are referring to the Santa Monica Women?s Prison, in
Chorillos, outside Lima, Peru, where the North American social
activist, Lori Berenson was once rrently imprisoned. Here is the
latest news on Lori:
http://www.freelori.org/news/03nov14_commondreams.html
Lori Berenson, an American woman jailed for treason in Peru, was moved
to the Santa Monica Women?s prison, August 31, 2000. ?Berenson was
found guilty of treason by a military tribunal in January 1996,
accused of helping the rebel Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement plan
an attack on Peru's Congress. ? (She is currently in the Huacariz
prison, near Cajamarca, Peru)
http://www.freelori.org/news/00aug31_ap.html
?Conditions here are luxurious compared to the Andean prisons where
Berenson has served most of her time, but they are far from pleasant.
Concrete walls hem in a bleak yard. The other prisoners, all Peruvian
women, sit on rows of chairs and talk to their husbands and children
while Latin music plays beneath a rectangle of overcast sky.?

Santa Monica Women?s Prison was built in 1951
http://reference.allrefer.com/country-guide-study/peru/peru170.html
?In Santa Monica Women's Prison for persons convicted of treason and
terrorism, there were 285 inmates who, until October 1997, had had
only half an hour daily in the prison yard and, since that date, have
been subject to the following regime: (a) special maximum security:
116 prisoners, separated politically, with one hour in the yard per
day and one hour-long visit per week speaking through a grille in the
visiting room; they can only work in their cells; (b) "improved
category": 19 prisoners with the same regime of visits and yard
exercise, but without separation for political reasons; (c) medium
security: 84 prisoners, with two hours daily in the prison yard and
two hours of visits without the visiting room grille; they can work
outside their cells; (d) the 66 remaining inmates (minimum security)
have an open regime of work, 4 hours a day in the yard and 4 hours of
visits, and both adults and children can visit. The "repenters" are
separated from the first group.?

Poor conditions exist in the Santa Monica Prison:?Built nearly 50
years ago for 230 inmates, the Santa Monica de Chorrillos women's
prison is a grim, high-walled facility that nowadays holds as many as
650 women and as many as 50of the inmates' young children, ages 3 and
under.
Peru, which spends 74 cents a day on each inmate's food, does not
provide most basics--including a toilet seat--at its prisons. For
meals, the prison provides tea and rice gruel three times a day. And
so, from drinking water to food to toilet paper, Davis buys what she
needs to survive, at a cost of about $300 a month. (Missionaries bring
food into the prison, and inmates sell things too.) Davis often shares
her food and vitamins with others, especially the children.?

Hi possum,
"For meals, the prison provides tea and rice gruel three times a day."
was contained in my original answer. In the Court TV article included
in my original answer, Lori Berenson elaborated about the food in the
prison as well.
You requested three clarifications within 12 minutes, which is not a
very resonable time for me to reply, given world time differences.
Should you ask a Google question in the future, please give the
researcher a bit more time to respond, before rating. Once a question
is rated, it is generally considered closed, which is why I requested
that you ask for an Answer Clarification.
Santa Monica inmates are allowed to write and receive regular mail, as
stated in some of the articles I included in my original answer. I
found no mention of e-mail, not much about quarters but there are some
statements in the sites I gave you. Actually what I gave you is about
all I found, except repeated posts of what I gave you. Do you speak
Spanish? If so I can supply you with a few more pages, but there is
scant information to be found on this prison.
Thank you for the tip!
