josh_robb,
You can go ahead and post a East European question now if you'd like.
I won't be able to get to it until I finish this one, which should be
by the end of the day.
However, I do have a few concerns. I am not finding very accurate
information for all of the countries. Hospital databases for many of
the countries are not available, or only available in part. One
hospital list for the same country might have 30 hospitals while
another list might have 100. I am trying my hardest to find the most
comprehensive list for each country and manually counting the number
of hospitals on the list. Is it a totally accurate number? I don't
know!
What is your feeling about doing the best I can with publicly
available hospital lists? How do you feel about not being totally sure
the number is 100% accurate? How do you feel if out of this list of
countries, I cannot find a complete list for some of the countries but
only a partial list?
I can compile the hospital databases I uncover and point you to the
sources of expensive hospital market reports and you can then make a
decision about whether you want to supplement the data if you want.
I am not sure what your financial resources are or your reasons for
compiling the lists. Therefore, I am not sure how exacting your
information must be for the number of facilities within each country.
Many lists contain hospitals AND clinics, or are incomplete as I have
stated, so it is hard to differentiate the two and give you only a
number for hospitals. I am trying to differentiate them but it is
difficult. What I can do is point you to all the various databases for
each country and let you know how many facilities are included in each
list.
Please let me know if you are comfortable with the information I can
compile in this manner, okay?

josh_robb,
Until I hear from you, I will probably take a break. I have put in
over 10 hours of research and cannot compile a definitive list of
hospitals or numbers of hospitals for most countries. I am having a
difficult time even finding a statistical number, let alone web links
or lists of addresses.
Currently, the breakdown is as follows:

josh_robb,
Until I hear whether you want the information I have found, I will
probably take a break. I have spent almost ten hours researching and
have not found any definitive lists or statistics for most of the
countries! I believe you will need to spend quite a bit of money on
paid databases if you want extremely comprehensive information.
Currently, I have found the following:
Belgium - 311 hospitals
Luxembourg - 7 hospitals
Netherlands - 22 hospitals
Finland - 5 university hospitals
Sweden - 9 hospitals on one lists and 6 on another with duplication
Norway - a statistic listing 74 hospitals in 2002, but only 14
listings on a directory
Denmark - 4 hospitals listed
France - 384 hospitals
Germany - 270 "non-university hospitals" and 62 University hospitals
Ireland - 254 hospitals
Austria - 98 hospitals listed by area
Spain - 33 hospitals
Italy - 18 hospitals on on database, 12 on another with duplication
Greece - 140 hospitals, a few with websites
Portugal - 25 hospitals
Some of these countries several listings of different sizes and accuracy.
If you would like me to post what I have as an answer, along with
information for market research databases and their costs, please let
me know!

My final clarification, I promise!
After finishing my research, I think I have pretty comprehensive
information for the following countries:
Ireland, Belgium, France, Austria, Greece, and a great portion of Germany.
I can provide those numbers (though they are not official) with links
to the directories. The rest of the countries are quite scanty and
unreliable.

Well, one more clarification. I can also provide you with a pretty
good link for Italian hospitals, as well as a resource for a hospital
address directory for European countries in the range of $1000.00

I hope this list provides some help. I know it is not as accurate as
you would like, but it is a start.

not, I will understand!
