Hello archbishop2000,

Thanks for the questions.

Q. Who provides their search results?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MSN UK search results are powered by Inktomi.com. You can read more
about the relationship here :

"Web Pages is powered by Inktomi.com, an algorithmic crawler which
provides pages from the web relevant to a user query...."
http://www.advantage.msn.co.uk/flattened/602B756C-8082-40BD-B1EF-AA018A014E2F.asp

To verify this, you can compare a search for the word test at MSN and
Shopping.net - who also uses Inktomi after their sponsored Espotting
search results :

MSN search for 'test'
http://uk.search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=test&FORM=SMCRT

Shopping.net results for 'test' (I put you past the Espotting results)
http://www.shopping.net/generic.asp?keyword=test&page=2

The algorithms may be slight different, thus the varying order of results.

Q. How do i get listed?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can go to Inktomi and add your site through an authorized agent.
They use resellers to add sites to their index :

"Search Submit is available exclusively through the Inktomi authorized
resellers listed below...."

"Your submitted pages rapidly become available throughout Inktomi's
Web Search network, which includes MSN, Hotbot, and other major
portals...."
http://www.inktomi.com/products/web_search/submit.html

Here are some direct links to add your site to the Inktomi index :

MarketLeap
http://www.marketleap.com/inktomi/searchsubmit.htm

PositionTech
http://www.positiontech.com/inktomi/searchsubmit.htm

You may also want to consider adding your site to the ODP (Open
Directory Project). Inktomi frequently crawls their content, and it's
free :

DMOZ
http://www.dmoz.org

Thanks for the great question! Should you need further clarification,
I would he happy to assist.

To assist with this answer, I surfed the MSN UK site until I found the
information I needed. No further searches were used.

Of further note - Yahoo owns Inktomi now. It's fairly common knowledge
to 'techies' that follow search engine news, but I was unsure if you
already knew about it :

Thanks again,
