A few years ago there was a product advertised called Prestone Rescue.
It was a jug of a "Gasoline Alternative" I guess you'd call it, that
you could keep in the back of your car safely, and then if you ran out
of Gas, you could use this to get to the next gas station. I cant seem
to find a place to buy this stuff any more. My question is what
happened to it? Does Prestone still manufacture it? Can I still buy
it? Where? If not, why? Is there anybody else that makes a similar
product currently? As I now commute over 150 miles a day I would
really like the comfort of haveing a safety fuel supply.
Thanks,
Jason

Greetings Jason:

I did not locate a Prestone product of this nature but I *did* locate
the same product made by Pennzoil.

Called "Pennzoil Rescue Emergency Fuel," the product is offered for
sale at the website at
http://www.arhomecenter.com/user/catalogue/product_detail.asp?ProductId=33706
- it is described: "Takes vehicle up to 10 miles. Runs clean as
gasoline but is not a gasoline or an alcohol. Leak resistant package
is safe to store in vehicle."

Another place offering purchase of the product is located at
http://www.xkms.org/AutoBarn.com-4/Pennzoil-Roadside-Rescue-Emergency-Fuel.htm

Canadian Driver has a short article on it here:
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/products/roadside_rescue.htm

*********

I also located another product that appears to be for the same function:
"Spare Tank is a newly introduced non-flammable fuel replacement
product that aims to help motorists whose gas tanks run empty while on
the road. Since we know it's unsafe to keep gasoline, which is
flammable, in our trunks, this fuel replacement product is the safest
alternative to gas, and is the quickest way to get your vehicle back
on the road after running out of fuel. Another safe fuel additive now
available is Pennzoil's Rescue. Both products are compatible with all
gasoline-powered vehicles."
From http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/may2000/technology.htm

I searched Spare tank and located an article at
http://www.entrepreneur.com/Magazines/Copy_of_MA_SegArticle/0,4453,284012,00.html
and there is direct contact information at the bottom of the article
for the product. I also found the following site that offers it for
sale: http://www.whateverworks.com/spare_tank.htm

Should you require clarirfication of the links or information I have
provided, please request it before rating this answer and I will be
happy to respond.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

Save your money, it's just kerosene. Available almost everywhere for
under $2/gallon.
