I'm looking for a specific gift Web site mentioned as part of a
shopping feature in the New York Times last week, it was either a
mid-week Home section or a Sunday section. The name is something like
mzytlplyzk.com, after a comic book hero or something like that, but we
must have recyled the paper, and I have been unable to find it in a
regular Google or Google directory search. I briefly searched the New
York Times web site also but with no luck so far. Hammacher Schlemmer
was mentioned in the same article. The only products I remember
specifically from the Mzytlplyzk site were some primary-colored glass
vases for around $15 or less. Would really like the correct name of
that site!

Hello.

This is the site:
Mxyplyzyk
http://www.mxyplyzyk.com/

A search for "mxyplyzyk" in the New York Times archive verifies that
it was indeed mentioned in the NYT last Thursday (December 4, 2003):
HOUSE & HOME/STYLE DESK | December 4, 2003, Thursday
PERSONAL SHOPPER: 25 UNDER $25; For Everybody, a Little Something
http://query.nytimes.com/search/query?query=mxyplyzyk&date=past30days&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=Search

-------
search strategy:
(I recognized the name was similar to a character from the Superman
comic books), so I searched for:
store "named after" superman comic

I hope this helps.

Thanks! Superman villian, that's what it was. There's nothing worse
than being unable to find something you *know* exists. You saved my
sanity.

In case you're curious about the character from "Superman" comics who
inspired the store's name, here's a bit of info about Mxyzptlk (note
the spelling):

http://www.unstable.com/whoswho/mxyzptlk.htm

I wonder whether the store changed the spelling of the name to avoid
infringing upon a trademark, or whether they were trying to make the
name somewhat more pronounceable.
