The conditions created in countries that fell to totalitarian forms of government after ww1 made them highly vulnerable to this. Many of these countries, such as germany, had their borders changed, and new countries were created or old countries were made part of other countries. Citizens lost their sense of actually belonging to a country, so they were willing to be united under a dictator or totalitarian government. Also, many countries in Europe were damaged by the war, and no one had the money to pay for fixing things. During wartime, economies tend to be better, because there is more of an international market for goods. So, when ww1 ended, many people lost a large amount of their income, and they were looking for a strong leader to fix their economies. |

Oh, and to add to what i said before, Imperialism led to communism in many cases. If a country was imperialized by a so-called democracy, they would later not trust this form of government and go for the more perfect seeming system, communism. |
