I have a 9 year old gas stove - a Thermador model # GCR48 4GG. It cosy
about $1,500.00. I am unable to locate burner grates. I need two of
them. Thermador states they are no longer made.
I believe the model number is either 20-01-534 or 143389.
They are cast iron and about 21.5 inches long.
I would appreciate advice on how to locate this item

Hi again ronsr,

I'm so sorry, I see that my link is not working. Try this:

http://www.expertappliance.com/thermador-stove-parts-2.html

At the bottom of the page, find the Search box.

Select Grate-Double-Covers 2 burners
Type part number 143389

That should do it. If not, or if you have any questions, please let me
know. Again, I'm sorry for all of the frustration I must have caused.

Sincerely,
hummer

Hi Hummer,
I have confirmed on the web that the part number is available. I have
sent them an email fully describing the part - as there is no picture,
and will await their response.
Will advise details when I get a response.
I did phone to try to expedite the matter, verbal interaction is
always helpful, but the person who answered stated that they did not
have such a part.
FYI

Hi Ron, thank you for the update. Gosh, I was so happy when I saw
"Available Yes", that I didn't think twice, I just believed them. I
regret not trying the "Live Person" when I had a chance, maybe I
could've saved you some trouble. It will really be annoying if they
don't have it.
You probably won't hear back from them until Monday so we'll just have
to sit tight. I'll have another look around the internet tomorrow and
try to find us a "Plan B". If I've been unsuccessful in finding
available grates, I'll ask the Google editors to remove my answer to
let another researcher give it a try, at no extra cost to you. We'll
stay in touch, hummer

No!
The grates are 21.5 inches long, rectangular, with 6 swiggly supports
that run independantly the length of the rectangle, for pans, etc.
Cast iron, one colour, and heavy.
My wife wants the same burners as replacements - not "ones that will
do!", hence why I wrote with details to see if the part number fit our
description.
I am now a little nervous, as your part number ties in but the burner
grates are very different.
Let's wait until Monday.
Have a great weekend.

Hi again, Ron. I just tried the "live chat". Here is the response:
"Dont have that info, contact part-research@expertappliance.com for that."
I'm assuming that is the email address you tried. I'm beginning to
have the same feeling you have and that this is going nowhere. Let me
know when you are ready and I will ask the GA editors to remove my
answer. Perhaps another researcher can help - I'm sorry if I got your
hopes up. Sincerely, hummer

Hummer, I have not heard back relative to my email. I had already
found the grate you located. However I am not a web expert and felt
with a stove only 9 years old that cost about US$1,500, a brand name,
that replacement burner parts similar to the originals had to be
available somewhere!!
I will let you know if I get an email response to my query - either way.
Thanks for the help - but I am getting the feeling that they are not
available. The parts people we have contacted otherwise would have had
them, or access to them.
Will be in touch.
Ron

Hi Ron - I know you don't need the whole cooktop, but are these your
grates? They are described as cast iron. I assume the 36" refers to
the whole cooktop and not the grates.

If by some miracle they are, you have another model number - it might help.

Hi Ron - I was wondering, why do you need new grates? Are they
cracked? Have you considered getting them repaired? You could take
them to an industrial welder or someone who does restoration work
(like on cast iron fences) and have them welded. Just a thought.
