Hello. A quick search on the internet indicates that the drug that your friend heard about is called DMT. Below you will find several examples of internet users making the same claim that your friend heard regarding the human body's supposed secretion of this drug at birth and death. "DMT is what is released when you are born and when you die by the Pineal gland along with a blocker so that it will not be diluted, and melatonin. At least that is what I have read." source: philosophyforums.com: http://forums.philosophyforums.com/showthread.php?t=3239 " Dr. Rick Strassman, author of the briskly selling DMT: The Spirit Molecule (Inner Traditions; see www.rickstrassman.com) focuses the search for a biochemical catalyst for spirituality on a single endogenous compound, DMT, the most powerful hallucinogen known. In the early Nineties, he conducted FDA-approved research on human subjects with the material. In his book, he posits the theory that blasts of resident DMT from the pineal gland at key moments of stress, including birth and death, are responsible for spiritual awakenings." source: sixties list; hosted by virginia.edu: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/lists_archive/sixties-l/4144.html "There is this poular designer drug called DMT or 5-MeO-DMT (a few other variations that I am not so familiar with) Anyway. When you die (correct me if I am wrong) your brain releases this chemical. " source: livejournal.com http://www.livejournal.com/users/anowyn/737132.html ----------- Information about DMT: DMT, hosted by drugscope.org.uk http://www.drugscope.org.uk/druginfo/drugsearch/ds_results.asp?file=\wip\11\1\1\dmt.html Drugs of Abuse - HALLUCINOGENS, from drugfreeworkplace.com http://www.drugfreeworkplace.com/drugsofabuse/hallucinogens.htm "Psilocybin & Psilocyn and other Tryptamines" from usdoj.gov http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/concern/psilocybin.html For more information, run Google searches about the drug DMT and a variant called "5-MeO-DMT" : ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=dmt+drug+&btnG=Google+Search ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%225-MeO-DMT%22+&btnG=Google+Search -------- search strategy: drug, "when you die", releases dmt, birth, death dmt, drug I hope this helps. |

Wished to comment on one of the quotes you were given in "answers". DMT, although I have never heard of it, cannot possibly be the strongest hallcuinogenic ever found, because Ergot from which LSD is derived- in millionths of a grain- is deadly. Ergot is known to grow on Rye in particularly wet seasons, and if ground up and used to produce bakery bread etc. can lead to serious hallucinations, illness and death. This was first documented to have occurred to an entire village in France a couple centuries ago which initially brought it to the attention of scientists. If you look up Ergot on the web I'm sure you'll find much more accurate information than my memory provides. Cheers! |

Hi Squishkate, The quote "...DMT, the most powerful hallucinogen..." comes from an article written by Charles Hayes in Tikkun Magazine. Whether DMT really is the most powerful is, of course, open to debate. Thanks for sharing your expertise. The question here, though, is what drug is supposedly created by the human body on two occasions (birth and death). DMT is the drug that is reputed to have that characteristic. Whether DMT really has such a property is also open to debate. The point is that's the "word on the street" about this drug, and, as such, it's the drug that this customer's friend heard about. -juggler |
