I have a new Western Digital Hard drive and when I attempt to install
the OS I get half way through and get a message stating some files did
not get copied. This happen only on Western digital hard drive as I
installed the same OS on a Maxtor Hard Drive and did not recieve any
problems. This the 2nd new hard drive from western digital in the past
30 days. What do you think the problem is? I have a brand new CD rom
drive. It is not the CD rom drive..What could the proble be ? or do I
have another bad hard drive?

It might be helpful if you could describe your system setup. What
sort of motherboard are you using, any other drives you have in the
system, and what else (if anything) is on the IDE channel with the
drive. Also what is the jumper setup on the hard drive.

What OS are you trying to install, and is there a more specific error
message you can provide?

I was installing Win200 Prof. which I have done many times, This is
the 2nd hard drive that was sent to me from Western Digital in the
last 30 daysthat is giving werror messages( setup can not copy
cdaudio.sys and when I retry it just keep giving me more files that it
can not copy. I do not think it is the CD I am using , because I have
tried two different CD's( Win200 prof. OS and Win2000 server) My
Chipset is VIA: VT82C686A 9944CD

MY BIOS string is
10/12/1999-694a-686a-2a6lga1bc-NQ

i remember experiencing similar problems on a WD HDD, until i figured
out that i had limited the hard drive capability by the jumper
setting, so that the partition that i was trying to install the OS on,
had too little space, and always ran out of space at the same point,
and gave file copying error.
Try checking the hard drive jumper settings.
Note: Maxtor doesn't give the jumper setting option to limit the hard
drive capability. So far i have only seen it on WD HDD.
