I am interested in raising and harvesting insects or other flora/fauna as raw materials for the allergen or medical research industries. What specimens are normally raised? What selling price can I expect ? Are there specific specimens that are in more demand? Are there specimens that are harder to raise thus potentially returning higher profit? Please list companies providing this service as well as companies looking to purchase raw materials. |

For what its worth, I know that Carolina Biological Supply (a very large company) provides many such samples of plant and animal specimens for research purposes. I also know that the scientific supply industry is based on relationships between the researchers and the suppliers that go beyond simple market economy considerations. Before you enter this field, I suggest that you consider the difficultly of competing with these well established companies. I don't mean to discourage you, but your question reveals that you may not know much at all about the industry in question. Good luck with your business, I personally hope that you succeed. |

I understand you concern and no I do not have much experience in this area. The point I would like to make is that I am not looking to compete with companies such as Carolina but to possible supply them with raw materials that they would resell. Or, to supply companies producing allergen vaccines/treatments for physicians treating patients. I am not looking to corner the market on fetal pigs or lepord frogs for high school advanced biology class. Makes sense? |

Yeah, but I'm not sure that Carolina outsources their materials. My knowledge of the subject ends here, so I hope a researcher can provide more information. In the meantime you might just want to visit the Carolina website at www.carolina.com. |
