I am trying to find proof of which politician (likely a senator or
congressman, but I'm not sure) made a statement about the median
income of the United States.
The statement is similar to, but may not be exactly: "I was surprised
to find out that 50% of the people in this country make less than the
median income."
As mentioned, this is not likely verbatim...the quote may be
paraphrased, and I need unequivocal proof of who made this quote.
I?ve been told that this quote is from the period between 1980 and
present day, but I?m not sure of that either. |

Hi.
I've located the name of a politician who reportedly made this
statement, probably at some time in the 1980s. The politician is a
well-known Congressman.
However, the reference that I found is an internet message in which
someone says he heard the politican make the statement in a news
report.
I'm not sure if this would be considered "proof," but if you're
interested in this information, I could supply you with the name of
the Congressman and a link to the archived message.

Hey,
Thanks for your effort. The person that has requested this
information told me that it had to be from a reputable source, such as
a news organization or public record. Although having the name of the
Congressman and the exact quote would be a great place to start, if
you aren't able to find the quote from a widely accepted source or
public record, I'm not at all confident that I would be able to
either; therefore, I must respectfully decline.
Thank you again for your efforts.

If I do not get an answer to this question, I will consider posting an
additional question requesting the name of the Congressman and the
exact quote for a smaller portion of the original price.

Okay, if you want to post a new question or reduce the value of this
one, I'd be happy to provide the information that I have.
Again, what I found is an archived message in which an internet user
recalls his memory of the Congressman making the statement. It's in
the form of an exact quote, but, again, the source is apparently the
writer's memory rather than an article or transcript.
From the context, I'd guess that the quote is from the mid-1980s.
That's the pre-WWW era, so you might have trouble finding solid online
confirmation of the statement. Thanks and good luck!
