Hi - I have a web page which uses frames and includes a NOFRAMES
section (primarily for search engines). When Google includes this page
in an answer set it references the source HTML for the upper frame not
the HTML which includes the frameset. I know there are various tricks
you can do with Javascript to alleviate this situation but is there
something I should be doing so that Google references the Frameset
HTML rather than one of the source HTML's.

The page which Google does include in the results is :

http://www.tonight.co.nz/reviews/ripleysgame_HEADER.HTML

... and the page I would like Google to include instead is :

http://www.tonight.co.nz/reviews/ripleysgame.HTML

Can anyone tell me of a change I can make so that Google will refer to
the second URL rather than the first ? At the moment I'm not asking
for client-side stuff (such as use of on-load events) to alleviate
this I'm interested to know is there something wrong with my frameset
?

thanks

Ahrgh! Absolutely right, I hit the wrong button, plain and simple. I
will immediately look into how I undo that. My apologies.

FYI, I have emailed Google Answers support and editors with an
explanation of my error and a request to un-answer the question so
that I am not paid and you can get a proper response. Again, I'm
terribly sorry about this.

No problem, I'm sure they'll sort it out. Thanks again for your
response - interested to hear from you or anyone else with other
suggestions.

Are you using Apache? Do you have access to edit the httpd.conf file?
If so there is a fairly straightforward way to deliver specialized
content when Googlebot comes calling.

Hi MajorTom - Yes I am using Apache and I do have access to the config
files. However I'm never quite sure how good an idea it is to tailor
content to web bots as I believe that they (quite understandably)
don't like this. I have heard conflicting reports about this however
so if you know more than I do I'd be interested to hear about it. I
can see why, eg, Google might not like it if you served one page them
to another to joe user as you could provide a 'keyword rich' page to
the bot in order to enhance your status in the results. However I am
interested if you know it's OK.

thanks for your interest.
