I am looking for a industry standard or research paper that specifies
how to compare and evaluate software technologies for a task. I will
be evaluating 5 different server-side technolgies.

Any Ideas ??

Hi,

You basically want to compare:

- features: does the product do what you want it to do?
- cost: does the product fit within your budget?
- performance: does the product do what you want it to do fast enough?
- reliability: does the product do what you want without messing up to much?

Are you looking for something more specific?

Thanks.

OK,

In that case I need an evaluation of PHP, ASP, JSP, Coldfusion and
Perl in the areas youve listed. I will also need evidence, backed up
by some research paper or something that is independant (ie not off
the Microsoft/PHP/Macromedia/Sun websites).

Thanks!

Hi,

I obviously cannot answer your question since I do not know your
needs, budget or performance requirements. Furthermore you're asking
for extensive research, which does not fit within the scope of the
question you've asked.

Thanks.

OK - perhaps that was out of the scope of the question - I am really
after a research paper that has some kind of benchmarks for the
technologies, or discusses the features, cost, performance and
reliability in a fair way.

Thanks!
