Do you mean an economic source if you want it for personal
consumption, or an economic source for industrial/manufacturing use?

I am looking for a source for personal use to help buffer a pond.
There is a commercial product called "calcoforce" that is about
$8/pound, but I'm sure I can find a suitable source for far less. The
key is that it should be more soluble than limestone.

Hello hogie-ga,
I searched the web over and found a company in Colorado that is
selling the same Calcoforce product for much less than $8/lb if you
buy it in 10lb or more pkg sizes. The website for the company
KeetonAquatics.com is:
http://www.keetonaquatics.com/ChemAids.htm
I called them and they no longer carry the Aquaclarus supplement
listed on their website. They have changed product lines and now sell
Calcoforce. The charge $34.95 for 10lbs, $77.95 for 25lbs, and $119.95
for 50lb. I called them up to make sure they were a real company. They
said that they also sell Calcoforce in 1lb pkgs but that it was
$12/lb. It is much cheaper buying it in larger pkg sizes. When I
talked with them they figured UPS ground shipping would be around
$10-15. If you want to call them yourself to get exact shipping costs
their phone number is: Phone:(970)493-4831
Fax:(970)493-4921.
The actual name and address of the company is below:
Keeton Industries, Inc.
300 Lincoln Court
Fort Collins, CO 80524

Hope that helps

As I am not yet an actuall researcher and I am unsure as to whether or
not this answer is specific enough I am posting it here in the
comments section. http://www.iowapyrosupply.com/chemical.html is the
website of a company that sells Calcium Carbonate in 1, 5 and 10
increments the 10lb increment going for 20 dollars not to include
shipping. Hope this helps at least a little bit.

P.S
I am also unsure if this is coccolithic calcium carbonate as you
specifically mentioned.

"Coccolithic calcium carbonate" is a fancy way of saying "chalk".
