Question ID: 287954
1. The delete command doesn't work and I receive the following error message :

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook".

How do I correct this error to permit deletion of selected items?

After backing up the Outlook files I received the error message.
Backup was successful except I cannot delete any data making the
resulting file unmanageable.

2. How can I delete all data in the Outlook files prior to restoring a
backup file to a second (backup) computer?

You'll find instructions for resolving this, here:

Let me know if this solves the problem.

I found the solution to the first question as to the 'messaging
interface has returned an unknown error'.

Solution: The deleted file is full. Delete all files in 'empty
deleted files' folder' It works.

2nd question: How do you delete all calendar files?

Peter

Deleting calendar entries

1. From the Calendar screen, click the hyperlinked date containing the
entry you wish to delete. The View Day screen appears.
2.	Select the entry you wish to delete. To delete all of the entries
for that day, click Delete All.
3.	Click Delete. A warning message appears.
4.	Click OK. The entry is deleted.

Deleting multiple calendar entries

1. From the Calendar screen, click the hyperlinked date containing the
entry you wish to delete. The View Day screen appears.
2.	To delete all of the entries for that day, click Delete All.
3.	A warning message appears.
4.	Click OK. All of the public and private entries that you have
posted for that day are deleted.

....does this help?

The solution to question 1 I found by posting the error message on
Google. Received a very simple and clear solution. The suggestion to
access microsoft site for the solution was much too complicated.

For question 2 we either couldn't find or don't have a 'delete all'
command for calendar, etc. other than for the deleted file files
folder. We did however, arrange all the data in a different format
that made deletion relatively easy.

Many thanks for your efforts.

Please charge me whatever you think is fair for the efforts you expended.
