How do I get permanent marker out of my rug?

Can you tell us what fiber the rug is made of (such as wool, cotton,
nylon, acrylic, etc.)?

I recently answered a question regarding removing permanent marker. 
In order to check whether the product recommended will work on rug
fabrics (of any kind) I phoned to double check, and it will work on
virtually any fabric.
