My wife applied for American citizenship in January 2003, after living in the U.S. for 7 years with a greencard. She filled out her citizenship application, got fingerprinted and submitted all of her materials to become a US citizen. She later received confirmation from the INS that they had received her application and it was being processed. We understood that it would take approximately 9 months for her to receive U.S. citizenship. Is there any phone number or mailing address in the U.S. government where we can get an update on the status of her application to become a U.S. citizen? We would like to get an update the status of her specific application - i.e. - what steps still need to be completed and the expected time frame for her to be granted citizenship. (note - My experience has been that the INS is not responsive to such requests. i.e. - you get caught up in their beauocracy and do not get a timely or useful answer. Any referrals to a truly helpful part of the INS would be appreciated. Thanks! | |
